My brother had TMS. It did not work for him but he was supposed to walk afterward but he did nothing. Not sure if that had anything to do with the outcome.
I have had two 36 continuous treatments of TMS twice in 2 yrs. Did you mean to say "walk afterward'? Not sure but I never had an instruction line that. So more important I think you are asking did it work?:I think it did as I am not depressed but I also take mirtazapine 30mg at nite. So difficult to say. What I will say and continue to say is that over the past 35 yrs. I have committed myself to actual talk therapy. I've seen the same psychiatrist for 30 yrs. But she is also the person who found treatment for me with adult children of alcoholics. (ACOA). I went twice a week to group and individual. It was hard work but I was committed to feeling better about myself. I still see women on reality tv etc who want to do sound baths etc. In place of difficult therapy. I am a firm believer in that my problems developed over a long period of time. Basically my entire childhood. What would make me or anyone else think that I could be helped in a few short days or thru some new age/what's currently popular fix? Therapy is hard and sometimes painful but coming out the other side is so important and freeing. I highly recommend pointing your relative towards therapy.
tMS takes a long time to work. If after 5 weeks you see no improvement, you may want to have your brain remapped. Most ins co will pay for one remapping. 4 weeks after my remapping, I am feeling some improvement. Don’t give up.
What you are experiencing can be a side effect for sure. I was just reading about that last night. So, for some it works, for some it doesn’t and for some, it makes them worse. Everything is risky I guess.
Remapping is a technique by which the person in charge decides which area of your brain to stimulate. Sometimes, if no change in mood, they can try to stimulate other areas.
Hope this helps.
I have had TMS sessions, 36 of them. I cannot say enough good about them. I highly recommend the treatment. My success was so obvious to my friends and family.
God bless you !!

My former neurologist advised me to begin TMS treatments over a year ago. After about a dozen sessions without any noticeable effects, she altered the area of stimulation and told me I would need two dozen more treatments. After eight more treatments, I discontinued treatments and sought out another neurologist. I have Parkinson's Disease, which I why I was seeing a neurologist in the first place. My major depression is mostly a result of severe childhood PTSD, exacerbated while I was a combat Marine in Vietnam. I have also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The only thing I got from seeing this quack was a dependence in the benzodiazapines she prescribed for me. When I stopped seeing her, I abruptly stopped taking the benzos which caused other problems. I'm currently not taking any medication at all, not even for PD. I do have mood swings, but stopping the benzos likely caused them to worsen. I'm working through my depression with a clinical social worker and making good progress. Perhaps TMS helps some people, but I view it a way for doctors to make some easy money. I'll stick to regular exercise, a healthy diet, plenty of sleep, and lots of social support. And the talk therapy helps a lot.
I had two rounds of TMS. The first time I got relief from my persistent depression for maybe 6 months. The second time failed completely. Good luck to you.
I just started TMS this week, have had 4 sessions. So far just a slight headache.
My depression is currently controlled by meds, which I have been on for YEARS, sometimes lower dosage, sometimes higher. Since it is Cymbalta, it is way difficult to get off. I also have PTSD, ADHD and rheumatoid arthritis. Doc says this will help with PTSD anxiety, brain fog and pain. When will I know if it is helping? Esp. Since current.depression is controlled?

Was it just one more gimmick/scam?
