So when people are talking about November 30th, that is December 1st in New Zealand. For the later version. Sigh, we are so far ahead of the rest of the world:)
New tools I'd like: helping people accept a terminal diagnosis and get the palliative care they need. How to encourage people to live with the cancer.
Hi Alpaca:
I highly recommend an outreach toDr Amit Sood
Mayo Clinic.
When I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had surgery to remove most of my left lung, Hope even questionable.
I became a cancer patient in The Paced Breathing Study with Dr Sood. Oncology nurse called every FR and I listed to a 15 minute DVD very often, as I completed a work book
that is now in one of Dr Amit Sood’s Books.
You can also find Dr Sood’s free daily messages on line.
The study made me realize the silver lining of cancer. It changed my life and my focus. I am a ten year survivor.
Let’s stay connected, ok?
Many silent blessings.
linda
Dr. Amit Sood’s website - http://stressfree.org/. He has some great videos. Hoping we get to hear him speak again at the next Moderator/Mentor Meeting in Rochester.
I've had a look. He's good. Need to watch more of his videos.
Great topic Maureen, @alpaca
I encourage you to add your thoughts to this thread in the Mentors group, started by @windwalker
- How to address those with very serious diseases? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/how-to-address-those-with-very-serious-diseases/
Other mentors chimed in with their insightful thoughts. We didn't specifically talk about the acceptance of palliative care and living with a life-limiting diagnosis, but I would like to see you prompt the discussion in that direction. Thanks
John, I'm glad that you enjoyed Dr. Sood so much at last year's meetup. This year were working on getting Dr. Creagan. See Kanaaz's message in the thread about the 2018 Mentor Meetup here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/75985/bookmark/?ajax_hook=action&_wpnonce=f054043402
@colleenyoung -- Dr. Creagan is a hoot! I worked with him when I did communications for Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.
Hi, Colleen. Can you tell me what my involvement will be in the teleconference? I remember that you had an agenda for the last one, and if it's the same, could you direct me to the place where it's posted?
Thanks.
We got home this evening from spending a week with our daughter and family in Alameda. I'm wiped out from the drive. Thursday afternoon is my weekly therapy, and having missed a week, I don't know how together I'll be on Thursday morning. As a rule, by Thursday, I'm feeling pretty used up, and I want you to know that it's possible that I won't have much to contribute because of depression and anxiety. I don't mean to predict a bad day for myself, but I know how I usually feel.
Talk with you tomorrow.
Jim Dickinson
Hi Jim,
I can imagine that you're wiped from traveling.
There is an agenda for the call tomorrow. All the details of how to call in and the agenda can be found in the message at the top of this discussion thread. Here's the link to take you directly to that message https://connect.mayoclinic.org/event/mentor-teleconference-november-2017/
You can be as involved as you wish to be in the teleconference. I have some new things to show and tell about Connect, and we also want to allow for open discussion so that anyone can share their ideas, insights, challenges and triumphs. Consider it a casual get together among like-minded friends.
I will host the teleconference twice. Most people are taking part in the 10 am PT call. You also have the option to join the 6pm PT call if that works better for you.
