Acid reflux: Anyone out there?

I have acid reflux so bad it is coming up into my sinuses. I was only taking one Nexium (40mg) and then the Gastro added Raniditine (300) mg at night. I have started cutting them in half and it is getting better, but my sinuses and throat hurt all the time. My stomach is upset, and I have explosive gas. I've elevated my head at night. How can I get this to settle down?

I know this is rather late in the game, but if you had that much discomfort from a sinus infection, and have had more than one, I hope you're seeing a specialist. Mine generally tie in with the allergy stuff I suffer from as well. If one round of antibiotics doesn't fix it, be sure to followup and let your doc know! I've known of cases where the infection got so bad they were hospitalized due to proximity to the brain! Fortunately, even though I get one every couple of years, I've learned my symptoms, so one round of meds is generally enough. Good luck in the future!

Have you had an upper endoscopy?

Gaviscon Advance, made in the UK but available on the internet, is very helpful.

You may have laryngopharyngeal reflux in addition to GERD. Check out Dr. Jamie Koufman's web site for a ton of free info on diet and lifestyle changes you can make to improve your health with LRP. BTW a GI doc won't diagnose LRP. You have to go to an ENT for that. So an endoscopy by a GI doctor will be helpful to assess your esophagus and stomach, but not your throat.
