Tiny red spots inside lips. Please help!

@dlerma00

I noticed these tiny red spots on the inside of my lips earlier today but I haven’t noticed them in recent days so I’m thinking that they came on fairly quickly. I’m really nervous because I have no idea what they are, never seen anything like it. Google images have led me to think that it may be something called petechia, but I’m still not sure. I don’t know if I need to seek medical care right away or if it’s something that’s not very serious. If you have answers please reach out on this post. As of right now I don’t know what I should do. I’ve posted this info to this group thinking that what I have may be related to some sort of blood disorder or deficiency, but again I have no clue. Thank you all in advance!

@dlerma00 Hi and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. It’s always a little startling to see something different on our bodies. Searching on google usually brings out the worst of the worst... My background is 35 years as a certified dental assistant so I can speak from a little experience.
Let me ask you a few questions. Have you been nervously sucking on your lips or holding them between your teeth? This sounds silly but have you been doing a lot of kissing?
Have you eaten anything super hot? Are you on any new medications?
Is this area sore or does it feel bruised? Hot or burning sensations?

Petechiae appear when capillaries bleed, leaking blood into the skin. It can happen from straining too hard. As an example, people crying heavily sometimes you can see petechiae around their eyes. So it’s not anything to panic over. In your case, it’s the oral tissue around your lips and makes me think minor trauma to the area.

Give it a few days and it should gradually disappear as the blood gets resorbed into your body. However, If this continues or gets worse, a quick phone call to your dentist for an appointment will help ease your mind. I hope this helps. Lori.

dlerma00 Hi, just checking in with you to see how you’re doing. Have the little red dots in your mouth gone away yet? Hopefully by now they’ve disappeared. 🙂

Hi there @dlerma00, Looks like @loribmt has seen those red dots before. I see them between my fingers when another flare is on its way. In my mouth have been canker sores that look like yours and blister like sores on the outside of my lips. They have gone away....thank goodness but I had to use some meds.
May you be free of pain and suffering.
Chris
