COVID vaccines and neuropathy

Hi. I also had a history of neuropathy but it was mostly dormant. Got moderna 1st dose Jan 5. Within hours I was burning all over. Still hasn’t resolved. It has improved but I went back on gabapentin so hard to say how it would be if I quit taking that. My neurologist totally dismissed the possibility that it was the vaccine but my PCP didn’t. She felt it was possible since so many vaccine unknowns. She wouldn’t advise on the 2nd dose but did tell me her concern would be a 2nd dose causing irreparable damage. I stressed over the decision but I don’t regret skipping the 2nd dose as much as I wanted it. But everyone is different and health risks are different so we are all really on our own in this decision.

Hi Kathy, I had the first Moderna on February 26th. I had a sore arm for a couple of days and felt really tired the day of the injection. I'm due for the 2nd shot tomorrow. We' see how it goes.

@ken82 I appreciate your online information. Thank you. I can see on the CDC website what is being reported. Seems like deaths and side effects are dismissed, making it appear minor which is misleading. I don’t think those people affected negatively with the vaccines believed death or their side effects were nothing. It certainly changed their lives for the worse. I understand one has to look at the risks of the illness itself. Exposure risks and medical history all has to be considered when making a decision for or against the vaccine(s). You were not immediately affected with negative side effects but this is what I want to prevent from happening to me. I have neuropathy. Why is it on the CDC or other government websites there is no warning of potentially worsening neuropathy symptoms which is my concern. Look at the Mayo Clinic posts by members describing their worsening neuropathy condition. There are many. Why is that information not valid? Like so many of us, since not much is known about the coronavirus or the vaccines, we are being cautious and trying to avoid worsening health conditions. Some of us have chosen to wait and see as more information becomes available. Who wants worse neuropathy or the increased side effects potentially becoming permanent as one member was advised and warned by the PCP to not get the 2nd injection.
I also do not like the fact that some of our online search engines scrutinized the information we see first. With some the returned searches list all positive articles about the vaccines. Is that truthful? I like getting all the facts before making an informed decision regardless of the subject matter but in this case it seems some things are not discussed. I don’t understand in the beginning why the government would not declare how much money it would pay companies for the vaccines. For the companies it was probably money driven and the fact that no one would be held accountable for the potential harm the vaccines could cause. We should all be able to decide for ourselves of the potential harms and how much we are willing to endure. Wish you well. Toni

Hi. My symptoms built up very slowly. I'm still having burning in the face thighs ,moving slowly down the legs. I also have some needles here and there and very little hitching.. My neurologist thinks I should get the second shot. I'm not convinced. I did take an antibody test ,hoping that would help me make up my mind about the second shot. The results should be in today. Had I known. this was going to happen to me I would have one for the J& J vaccine . Tomorrow is my last chance for the second shot. Scared and confused.

@chezp169, This is indeed a very important decision and only you can make it. I get my second shot of Pfizer tomorrow. I am worried about it, but I want to be able to see my friends and eat in restaurants. I have lots of other medical issues, as do many of this group. If we gathered a list on all of our maladies, wouldn't that blow someone's mind? I believe tomorrow is also my last chance. I am taking it and I wish you the best as you make this critical decision. I do wish there had been a choice so I could take the J & J. Ah well, I am thankful I have this opportunity with Pfizer. Warm regards, @joybringer1

I'm getting my second dose of Maderna tomorrow. The first dose wasn't to bad. Sore arm for two days and fatigue on the day of injection. It's probably worth the risk.

I would feel the same way. They need to investigate more if the shot makes Neuropathy worse. . I know I am afraid to take it bc I live in pain all the time & don't need any more pain. I wish you the best.

Has anyone had the Johnson & Johnson vaccine? It is a one time shot. I was just wondering if anyone had side effects with that shot.
