Defibrilator and anxiety

Posted by hearttoheart1 @hearttoheart1, Jan 11, 2021

I’ve had my defibrilator since 2015
Over the past year ,since the COVID pandemic my heart/defibrilator is sore
I have not had any shocks but it is bringing me down
I know ,like many I am anxious and so fearful of getting the COVID,and am wondering does anyone else feel the same?

Hello
Thank you for kind response
I don’t know what “providers explanation “ mean?

I have anxiety, as well as, a defibrilator too. I have not experienced pain around that sight. I am just guessing, but being familiar with how the anxious mind works, perhaps this pain is caused because of your increased awareness of how your heart/defibriilator could be affected if you get COVID. Discuss this with your cardiologist and have them take a reading of your defib activity. If all is normal, then, hopefully, this will alleviate your fear, and the pain will fade. You are not alone.

I guess I an fearful as I am unsure when I will get my next appointment due to COVID
The pain comes and goes, but it’s making me more wary which I’m not usually
I do my walk most days, and keep busy but it’s reminding me often ,that it’s there 🥲

@hearttoheart1 Hi and Welcome. I too for many years had a pacemaker defibulator and I thought I might add to what @river19 said. But when I had one I also had a bedside device that would monitor activity that was programmed to alert the doctor's office usually thru the manufacturer of the device mine was Boston scientific and if I had a concern I could download my device with a button on the bedside and call the office and they could get it checked to see if anything was a concern. It doesn't require going to the office and may give you some comfort as to if there are any issues. I do know how what I use to call phantom feelings something was wrong and come to find out it was only anxiety. I hope that helps please let me know if I can answer any other questions.
Have a Blessed Day
Dana

Hi
Thank you for your helpful reply
I too have a bedside device Metdtronic ,which I use and has been of great comfort recently, and knowing the readings go to the Cardiologists office
You have used one word in your message ,which is “phantom” and you are exactly right
Being overwhelmed with all going on ,I’m convinced now that is what it is.
I will try to got outdoors more, be less serious within myself, but still mindful of COVID and the serious implications of it
Thank you
Have a safe and happy day

@hearttoheart1
Some people refer to doctors as "providers". Just FYI. Best, Hank

@hearttoheart1 You are most welcome for the response.

Provider means anyone that is providing you care. I say provider because a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Physical Therapist, Mental Health Therapist, and so on, are not doctors but they are still providing medical care.
