Dislocated hip again!

May I ask what your providers have said regarding the dislocations? Is this common?

Hello - I am sorry to hear this has happened again. I know how painful it is after only a single dislocation - but so many - ow!
I hade my hips replaces some years ago, and in 2012, the balls, cups and liners had to be removed and replaced because they were recalled, failing and had given me heavy metal poisoning.

The dislocation occurred one week after revision surgery, while I was sitting in a chair with my leg elevated. My surgeon immediately recognized, upon sedated examination, that the ball and liner were not the best fit for my situation, and replaced them with larger and somehow different parts. The end result was no more dislocations and complete healing, which took longer because muscles and ligaments were damaged by the event and extra surgery. So I had a lot of land and water PT and have been free of pain and dislocation for 8 years. The only "effect" of note is that radiologists always comment on any x-ray of the area "patient has bilateral hip implants of differing size and positioning" or something similar.

There is hope for full recovery!

I am having my 4 Th op to put cap liner in to stop hip coming out as I have now dislocated 7 times ! Has anyone had this done and how has it been ?

I'd also like to bring @bradley1941 into this discussion, who, like you has had 7 hip dislocations and multiple surgeries.

Amallasch, you must be thankful that your surgery has not be delayed due to COVID. When is your surgery?

My friend experienced the same issue (multiple dislocations) and sought a surgeon experienced in complex revisions. He finally determined she had a damaged ligament and tendon that were too weak to help hold things in place, and a custom brace was built to support the hip as it healed. It was only removed for PT & showering for several months, then she slowly weaned off wearing it.
Have they determined the cause of your dislocations?

Hi I had a infection in my thigh hip for 2 years that no one picked up ( this formed large sist like tumours which destroyed my muscle )I have had 2 braces that I wore after different dislocations and after 3 rd surgery to change position and after 9 months of building my muscles as much as I could I have now dislocated 3 more times after that surgery
So now a cap liner and I really hope this works

Yes we are lucky here in New Zealand that we do t have COVID in the community. However I’m nervous having yet another surgery and is hard to be confident that this will work ? I am only 54 and I was told this procedure limits range of movement and would put a lot of pressure on my custom cage that hold my implant . I was told 5/ /8 years is this true ?

I think you are asking how long this revision might last - you need to rely on your doctors for that assessment - we aren't in a position to know your individual situation.

Have you tried physical therapy for your orthopedic issues?
Have you had any second opinions?
Surgery should always be the last option if possible.
