Opthalmic Steroids after cataract surgery while weaning off Prednisone

Posted by heretaunga1947 @heretaunga1947, Dec 8, 2020

Has anybody else had experience of being prescribed Prednisolone, or other steroids in form of eye drops ,after cataract surgery? I was prescribed this 8 days ago but, being on the high you get after successful procedures, only looked closely at the bottle a day or so ago. I told the hospital I was on prednisone for pmr, although a very low dose, 1 m.g. and they made no comment. But my question is these two drugs must be very similar so how much does putting the eye drops in affect my reducing prednisone, if at all. Supposed to be for four weeks and then if I get the other eye done another month. I will be seeing my G.P. in a few days to ask but this group has such a lot of knowledge and experience thought I would ask here.I might be making a mountain out of a mole hill.

@heretaunga1947, I just did the prednisolone, ketorolac and ofloxacin eyedrops after both of my cataract surgeries. I don't think anyone can answer your question or provide medical advice. This is something you should contact your eye surgeon or care team as soon as possible since you are supposed to follow a specific schedule for the eye drops for 4 weeks.

Prednisolone is a steroid medicine that is used to relieve the redness, itching, and swelling caused by eye infections and other conditions. -- Prednisolone (Ophthalmic Route) Side Effects - Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/prednisolone-ophthalmic-route/side-effects/drg-20406320

My surgeon gave me a card with his secretary's phone number to call for any questions after the surgery. Did your surgeon leave you a phone number to call in case of complications or questions?
