Ruling out Diabetes insipidus
Hi, I've recently had some abnormal tests and been referred to a Nephrologist. Im concerned it may be diabetes insipidus. Ive been taking Lithium for over 10 years, so Im afraid thats what is causing this. Most symptoms and labs steer toward this diagnosis, but not all. Testing for diabetes mellitus came back normal. Does anyone know anything about DI? I'm very frustrated as I do not see the specialist for another month. Nothing else really fits....no blood or protein in urine. Urine osmality low but serum is normal. Low gfr, ,low serum potassium, slighty elevated creatinine, and several 24hr urine test results were off. I drink a lot, preferably cold drinks. Pee often, and just recently wet the bed a few times. Ive had dry mouth, thirst for years, but didn't think anything of it until I started to get low gfr numbers recently, then thought I should seek another opinion. Im just kind of lost. Whatever it is or isnt, i just want to know. I have other health problems. Making me nervous, feel like dead weight right now, bracing for impact.

I added your post about ruling out diabetes insipidus to the Diabetes group as well as the Kidney & Bladder group so that others may weigh in. It sounds like you've already done some online searching for answers. But it case you didn't see these resources, here are some articles on diabetes insipidus:

Have the doctors investigated the possible relationship of your symptoms to lithium toxicity?
Thank you Colleen for integrating everything. Im hoping the specialist will give me some answers on whether its related to Lithium, or anything else. My lithium levels have always been normal, but Im not sure if that matters via long term dosing. My psych dr just told me to go to a gp or other to seek out, had no other info. So, no, no one has really told me anything.
Update: Labs today had my urine osmolality was lower, under 100. Blood osmolality a little high for the first time. Potassium was at low point of normal range. I've been on and off supplements because of it dropping. I'm just scared..there's nothing I can do just wait to see the specialist. I know it's probably not life-threatening, but something's not right. Just can't wait for more information!
