A NeuroPsychiatrist specializes in Neurology and Psychiatry so he/she can look at both areas. Personally I think that is better than going to either one or the other. Hope this helps. God Bless.

Hi @mariajean03,

A neuropsychiatrist is an M.D. He/She has been to medical school and can prescribe prescriptions. A Neuropsychologist is not an M.D. and will often have a Ph.D. They, of course, cannot write prescriptions but may refer you to a psychiatrist for the prescription if it is needed. They will, however, be able to perform neuropsychological testing to determine brain damage, etc., and they can also provide talk therapy, etc. like any other psychologist.

Both professionals are important parts of the medical team that treats neuropsychological disorders.
