I am a diabetic. My father was a diabetic ,and it contributed to his death. His first stroke was at my last semester in college and I had started to work on a masters degrees . Since my brother was just starting college , I had to leave when the semester was over. Dad did not want to change his diet, so he gradually got worse with another stroke in a couple of years and a third from which he didn’t recover,
I was diagnosed with diabetes about 2006.
At the time I had my second cancer problem . I am now. 90 years old and a 14 year cancer survivor. About 2008 , my a1c was closing in on 7, and my weight was over 200 lb . Dr told me I needed to lose some weight and change my diet. So i starred reading up on diet. Changed my diet gradually to eliminate foods that were contributing to my a 1 c . With my diet. Changed my a 1 c dropped gradually until
It is now 6 and my weight is. 154 . It only takes a desire to live. My diet has plenty of good fruit and other foods like chicken and whole grain cereal and bread that is sugar free , but very little red meat,

Exboater, you are now my new role model. I am 85, working on getting to an AIC of 6, and working on slowly reaching 154 lbs. I think I can celebrate age 90 so long as cancer doesn't return. I know this will work for me. Thanks for your testament. Dorisena

I am newly diagnosed with a sensor imbedded in my arm and a remote scanner/recorder. I wonder if these two screen shots are normal or are there issues. The early am spike is only morning coffee with a teaspoon of sugar . The target of 7 (200in us?) seems to be the norm but for after food times. I wonder if in the second screen shot of my remote , which has peak around 10 that is acceptable but does the high last too l9ng above 7. Hoping someone can analyze these 2 screen shots from the last 2 days

I would ask your doctor or nutritionist.

Diabetes is a dietary disease though the doctor will never tell you that ! Read or look at utube, jason Fung, MD. Fasting and low carbs will bring down your numbers. I love it ! I am on no medicine, prediabetic, age 75 and 120lbs for the past 20 years. What makes the numbers go down is when you fast the body is not producing insulin, insulin makes you fat and can give you Type 2. I should say not producing lots of insulin. I have coffee with mild and water in the AM.

Really struggl8ng with my readings. This chart shows my target . If I have a cup of coffee with a tsp of sugar and my reading is within this guideline. Or I have a hamburger and fries for lunch and my reading is 10 within this target. Am I not ok?

jdiakiw:

First, let me say I am not a doctor or a health care professional, so take my answer with a healthy grain of salt. That said, To answer your question as to whether you are within the guidelines of the provided chart, it appears so, if my calculations are correct.

However, a few comments about your diet:
You are not getting the nutrients your body needs, and your numbers will not stay like that without changing your diet. I believe you could work to lower or possibly get off your dependence on insulin with a proper diet, portion size, and exercise. Otherwise I predict the numbers you’re seeing will soon be increasing.

Additionally you may be seeing similar results eating junk food vs. not eating because your liver senses inadequate food (when you don’t eat) and releases what amounts to an increase in your blood sugar. This too, will most likely change for the worse without changing your dietary habits.

The healthy changes elsewhere in this post will give you a great start toward better health, if you choose to go that way. I hope you do, and soon. (Not to frighten you, but type “uncontrolled diabetes complications” into your favorite search engine.)

This chart does not tell you what to do. It is the french fries, the white hamburger bun, and the sugar in the coffee without any protein or fat for breakfast that is causing the higher numbers. You can take the insulin and bring the numbers down and then have some more carbs, but that is not a cure. You need to stick to a diet that your body needs: protein, vegetables, some fruit , some dairy, and maybe some whole grain bread. Skip everything in a box or package. You will feel so much better, you won't miss the sweets or the French fries. After the numbers come down and you lose some weight, if needed, you can have a baked potato, loaded once in a while.
Yesterday I had pasta with pesto and fried egg plant, which I love. It was low in protein but today my blood sugar is almost normal, meaning close to 100. Read on the web and change your diet. Everything else can fall into place. Dorisena
