Cataract Surgery: What to expect after surgery

Posted by dablues @dablues, Aug 13, 2020

I had my left eye done yesterday, and have an appointment to see the durgedon today in Atlanta. My eye is blurry so don't know if that is normal or not. She said I could resume exercising at the Y after a week, no driving for 3 days but shaid nothing else. I guess I cn wait and ask until I get there but some say no heavy lifinting, not to bvend, and not to exercise for 2 weeks. I also have exercises to do at night from my therapy on neck and legss. Is blurryiness normal? I see less thsan I did before. I have exfoliation which I told the doctor but she said not to worry. Any thoughts on this? Am I jumping the gun thinking I would cleary see after surgery:? Also this AM saw halos around lights

@dablues She didn't tell you not to bend, lift heavy things or reach overhead? That is so important I had mine done a while a go both eyes . Make sure you don't do these things I mentioned and make sure you do the drops . My cataracts where so bad as my eyes where the Dr did them a week apart but yes after one day they where blurry and will be but each day you see more clearer . When you see your Dr ask her questions you may have but your doing fine and the blurriness will get more clearer everyday. A friend here I went with here to the surgeon hers it was very thick it took her a couple of days till the blurriness was all gone so just be patient.

She didn't tell me to reach overhead, told me not to bend, but I forget. Also not to lift over 20 lbs. but my hubby has COPD and can't breathe even with oxygen so I try not to carry heavy bags of groceries but don't know the weight of them.

@dablues Im surprised she didn't tell you that . I had my cataracts out in 09 they perfect medicine all the time so maybe there is a knew procedure now . This is what I know about what not to do and just wanted to pass it on. As with any operation there are guidelines to follow till your well that goes for the eyes also Hope you have a good report when you see her

Had both eyes done this year and for me both times the primary issue was eye floaters that were aggravating and gradually subsided. One eye was blurry for a couple of days but over time improved. Eyes did need eye drops for dryness. But, overall after these issues went away I was amazed at the improvements. Even the need for reading glasses is gone for some situations and when I use them it is at a 1.5 level versus the 2.75 used before.

It's been over 1 week and still blurry, but will wait to see what doctor says on next appointment. My other eye that will be done in September I have floaters. What confused me was the doctor asked how I wanted to see, far away, close up, or medium. I didn't know what to say since I didn't know they asked that question so I just said medium. When done and hubby picked me up I asked him when he had that if they asked that question and he said no, but he had his surgery years, and years ago.

@dablues I think the questions the doctor asked were for trying to figure out which Intraocular Cataract Lenses (IOL) would work best for you -- IOLs: Choosing the best implant for cataract surgery: https://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/iols.htm

I also read an interesting story I think might add some perspective for anyone considering cataract surgery -- Vision after cataract surgery, from a surgeon's perspective: https://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/cataract-surgery-experience.htm

Hoping your blurriness goes away soon!

I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes in the past 3 months and the surgery and the recovery went quite well. Have you had cataract surgery?

While I don’t need cataract surgery yet, I know I will at sometime in the future. I feel I’ve been damaged by laser assisted procedures such as Lasik and laser iridotomy. Please read this article is very interesting

@quincy9 You feel your [vision] has been damaged by a laser assisted procedure. It looks like you already saw that I moved your question into a discussion where members like @vijaychauhan @dablues @lioness @cwle are currently discussing cataract surgery. I encourage you to scroll back through the comments. Members like @bmy @cheryle @sunny1971 @jackbonnie also discussing post op cataract surgery in the discussion I have linked below.

Thank you for clarifying that you did not have cataract surgery. May I ask what advice and/or questions patients should ask before having laser assisted cataract surgery?
