Hi ginette55, did your grandson get the diagnosis of infiltrative astrocytoma?
Here's more information https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/astrocytoma/

Do you know the grade of his astrocytoma? What treatments has he had?

REPLY

NO.it is a recurrence after 6 years.

His first cancer was a medulloblastoma for which he did 6 weeks of radiation and 18 months of chemo. This time, he was only able to do 2 weeks of radiation before hitting his lifetime cap, so that's all he's been able to do.

Hi there. My husband has been diagnosed with a diffuse astrocytoma in his right temporal lobe. They have not given information on size or confirmed the grade yet but have noted it covers most of the right temporal lobe. They have said that it is inoperable as it is diffuse and would cause too much disability. They have also said that proton would not be suitable and are suggesting radiotherapy. Does anyone have any information on this. Thank you

Hello @leri and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis. I imagine the lack of information on the size and grade has you reeling a bit until you know more details. It is good you're seeking support.

You will notice that I have moved your post into an existing discussion on this topic so that you may connect with @ginette55 who started this discussion in hopes that the pair of you can help one another.

In the meantime, here is some information with regard to treatment options:

When do you expect to learn more from the oncologist?

Thank you. We meet with the oncologist this week so maybe we will have more info then. Thank you
