Constant feeling of needing to clear my throat

Posted by Harvey @purdy, May 9, 2020

The symptoms started almost two years ago. Have seen ENT, Gastro doc, had a linx placed and removed within five weeks, Cardio doc, Orthopedic surgeon and just had surgery for spinal stenosis in areas of C6 C7, and still have stenosis in lower back causing issues in legs. YET NO ONE has any idea what is causing the original issue of the FEELING TO CONSTANTLY CLEAR MY THROAT. Have had endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood tests, name it. NOTHING! BEGGING for ideas and relief.

I am not a doctor but one option you may want to explore is checking the side effects of any medication you are taking, if any.

My husband used to clear his throat frequently!!
I insisted that he go to an ENT: “Nothing anatomically wrong.” Said the doc.
What next!!??

My husband told me that when he was young his mother used to blow on his neck.. to tickle him.
He never wanted anyone to touch his neck 🙅‍♂️
Never heard of that one! !💁🏼‍♀️

He rarely clears his throat .. many years later!
No one blows on his neck🙅‍♀️🙅‍♂️👼

Thank you. Unfortunately, I’ve never had someone do that. My issue came on quickly. GP thought it was allergies, so that’s how it all started. One thing lead to another and another and two years later and two surgeries thus far and it’s still there.

Thank you. That was the first thing I did. At the time that it started, I was taking Xanax for anxiety. Stopped that, but issues are still there.

Hmmm...do you consume a lot of dairy? Or products that contain diary such as salad dressings, mayo, ect? Is it exercise induced?

So sorry for your suffering. How about post-nasal drip or acid reflux or allergies? I use Simply saline nasal mist spray by Arm&Hammer for my nose / throat & Gaviscon Advance for GERD.

No to both. It’s food induced.

I’ve had all of that checked. Actually had the LINX device placed last year for acid reflux, and had to have it removed because I lost 40 lbs and I could get anything down. I’ve had every test possible. My swallowing issues started at the same time that my neck issues started. I ha e been diagnosed with spinal stenosis in my neck and lower back.

I have the throat clearing issue also.now for like 3 years. I had some tests done other than endoscopy. It was concluded that my esophageal muscles aren't working as well as they should, pushing the food down slower than normal. There is also a condition called Achalasia and also weakened perstalisis. If you are interested in what tests I had done, I can look that info up. I cant remember the names off the top of my head. I went to 2 other gastro doctors since the dr. that did my tests was only a surgeon who deals with my issue but there is no surgical option for it. The one gastro dr. has me taking protonix (take on empty stomach at least 30 minutes before eating.) I also follow the low acid diet, don't eat late night. I cant eat a lot at one time now and have to eat slowly.
