What do you do for Neuropathy itch?

Please, please do not use topical steroids unless under the strictest application. My daughter has had eczema her whole life and multiple doctors have prescribed stronger and stronger steroids with no guidance on how to use them. When you stop taking the steroids because they don't work anymore you can go into Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW). This currently affects approx.12% of people using steroids inappropriately. Many times your doctor will not tell you about the danger. My daughter has been in extreme pain for the last six months and is still in so much agony with dry, cracked, oozing and bleeding skin, deep unrelating itch, extreme nerve pain, constant fatigue but unable to fall asleep. She describes herself as looking like a monster. It is utter hell. Please look up Topical Steroid Withdrawal or Red Skin Syndrome. This can affect babies too. Many doctors do not recognize TSW because they have no other treatment but if you investigate you will see for yourself and make an informed decision.

Yes, thank you that is a great and important warning. My doctor and I work closely on such things. I only use small amounts, of a low dose specially compounded prescription and only for 3 days max. If i need more than that, I’m to call him. Honestly I’ve never needed it for more than a day or two to get things back in order since the initial use

Hi and welcome to Connect. I do not personally suffer from eczema but this sounds like very good advice. It seems that bad or insufficient information can come from any quarter, even the doctors we trust. All the more reason for forums like Mayo Connect where much can be learned from other people's personal experiences, that one might not hear anywhere else. Thank-you for chiming in! Best, Hank

How is your daughter being supported through the withdrawal? How has she found relief?
