Irritable stomach and a red face
I have ibs and slow-transit constipation. Ive been having one flare after another of ibs. My face has been red a alot past few days. Im just wondering if theres a connection. Not sleeping good, have some hot/cold and chills. My dr. gave me an antispasmodic, and my stomach quieted down a few hours. Its back, especially if i eat. Im really not sure what to do. Im not sure if its something to be seen for.I dont have any "serious" symptoms as they would say. I just cant eat...having pain, cramping, bloating,gas, burping, a little diarrhea and also constipation. Its been a month now and its hard to function at my normal.

Hi @januaryjane, sorry to hear you are having multiple flare ups of IBS. Is the red face more of a flushing feeling where you feel like you are getting hot and your face turns red or is it more of a constant splotchiness to the face that just hasn't gone away?
@januaryjane- I have a couple of thoughts. With the recent cramps, bloating and diarrhea you could have SIBO Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Many of us with IBS experience this. There is certain meds for this - Xifaxan for example. When I get it bad I feel pretty sick. With the facial redness you could have celiac disease- you may have been tested already. Food allergies can give you very similar symptoms. I think this is serious enough to discuss with your doctor. It has a negative impact on your life. Maybe you could have a tele visit?
Yes, ive talked to drs about sibo, had a breath test, was hydrogen positive. He put me on an antibiotic, not xifan, and it made jt worse. He was not a helpful guy, so i didnt pursue him. I mentioned something to my gastro dr, she didnt seem concerned. So i dunno. Ive been tested for celiac and do not have it.
Its a complete redness covering my face, most of the time at that point. Its gone now and stomach is calmer. but i continue to have symptoms of erythromelalgia. Hoping to be seen for this.

Thank you Amanda for the article. This could be a possibility, i will ask about it. I never used to be sensitive to dairy, now i have to be careful. Lactose free is what im trying now, almond milk doesnt agree, not supposed to have soy. I just limit what i eat, and sometimes thats anything but water! Ive been feeling much better with my stomach though!!
I've been reading about histamines because I seem to be prone to migraine-like symptoms and am trying to figure out what my triggers may be. I was surprised to read that gastrointestinal symptoms can be a sign of trouble with histamines. Some of my safest foods are oatmeal, apples, and ginger.
