I'm high-risk with asthma. How to stay safe with viruses?

Thank you everyone for your replies. I guess I just have to only still go out when necessary with my mask and gloves. They are talking about opening up things slowly and doing the antibody testing. But checking we dont have enough tests. So being high risk we will keep it as is until we find a vaccine for this which could be up to 18 mo. Let's hope Mayo comes up with one sooner .
The other thing we need to consider, even when the test to show who has had the virus becomes available, is that until a majority of the population has immunity, either through having had Covid-19 or being vaccinated, we are still at risk of getting it. So precautions will continue until then... at least during periods of active transmission
That said, I am waiting for my family, who were quarantined with "presumed Covid-19" because not test were available - to be tested. I hope that what they endured was the virus, so it will be safe for us to be together again. The prolonged separation from my kids and grands is almost a physical pain to me - I am so accustomed to their presence and their hugs!
As for exposure in the greater community, what level of new infection in your area will be low enough for you to feel safe going out on a limited basis into the community? I mean day-to-day, not venturing into crowds. I am thinking when my county is reporting zero new cases for a week or more, I will be going out.
For now, other than the once-every-10-days trip for food, we have done only curbside pickup for over a month.

I am so sorry.
@katimacaz, I think you just summed up my plan of "restarting more normal activities" in the perfect nutshell: "When the urge to get out is stronger than the urge to protect myself, it'll be time to go out. That time is not now." Well said! The same goes for me. Thank you.
