Peristalsis Problems: Considering Surgery (Colectomy)
I am 34 and over 15 years ago my peristalsis in my bowel began to fail. For an unknown reason. Here I am, multiple tests, pills and all that jumping through hoops later and having to deal with a Colectomy sitting on my plate, options growing smaller. Im still pretty young, thats why I have waited and am exhausting all options, trying everything. Im very torn on how long I need to keep doing this. I hate the option of surgery but I am very disabled and have not really had a chance to start my life.
A lot of people on the outside say, Dont do surgery. But they dont have my body or life. I need real advice. Im so lost

Hi @januaryjane, I am so sorry you are feeling lost and having to deal with the possibility of getting a colectomy. I thought it might be helpful to connect with a few members @bcstew, @supercalifragilistic, @kitmus, @beanglow, @mjgstewart, @mrigs, @engelee and @sandyrb who have shared similar stories.
You said, “I have waited and am exhausting all options, trying everything”. Can you share what you have tried and if there is anything that you feel helps your symptoms?
Hello @januaryjane,
I know that you have posted in many different discussion groups here on Connect and you appear to have a variety of health problems. I'm sorry to hear of this slow-transit constipation. That can really be difficult to treat. I have that as well due to three digestive tract surgeries. It is not easy to deal with it.
I'm interested in learning as Amanda (@amandaburnett) said as to what you have tried so far.
Thank you. No, it is not easy. Sorry you have to deal with it.
Ive done every diet, exercise, pelvic floor therapy, biofeedback, physical therapy, all the meds...amitiza, trulance, motegrity, linzess, supplements, ect.
