Allergic reaction to raw ginger?

Posted by msmona51 @msmona51, Apr 6, 2020

Am I the only person who can’t take the smell of raw ginger
My husband peels and boil raw ginger in large amounts to make ginger tea
Every time I inhale the aroma I get a headache a stuffy nose and a fullness in my chest

Never really cooked with fresh ginger always used processed ginger
My hubby is on a wellness kick and now makes a fresh ginger and pineapple juice
I’m 68 and stopped eating foods with garlic and /or Ginger about 5 years ago due to my IBS and Gastroperesis

Hi @msmona51 Welcome to Connect. I have never boiled raw ginger, perhaps that increases the smell of it, but I love ginger and try to keep some candied ginger in the house. As @colleenyoung commented, perhaps you have an allergy to it. To me, ginger and pineapple juice sounds delicious! I also do not eat garlic but that of course is not a relative of ginger as far as I know.

Thanks
I think I will ask for an allergy test for food odors
