Thank you Jennifer! Specific questions will really help with my conversation and I will add yours to my list. I agree that knowledge is power am I learning a lot! One week ago I was totally in the dark on this disease. I exercise regularly so I will keep that up. Have to say-I love your picture...you look healthy and happy! Nancy
Hi, Jennifer. In regards to your questions about airway clearance, has your pulmonologist not spoken to you about the avenue which is considered best for your symptoms? One can use an Aerobika, but the strength setting and frequency should be determined by your doctor. Have they measured your intake and output? Done any breathing measurements? Also, did they mention using a Smart Vest to help loosen the mucous? They should give you hands on instructions for this too, and it should be fitted and your regiment set up for you on the machine. Best wishes !!! Toni
I'm sorry. My reply below is somewhat ambiguous. I meant to reply to you..... but I wrote Jennifer. Sorry for the confusion. Best of luck. I can relate. There's so much out there but bottom line, we have to be our own advocates and this site is wonderful for answers to our many questions. Toni
Is the head of your bed elevated? This should help.
Hi, Sue. You mentioned supplements. May I ask what you use? I've been drink a lot of ginger/turmeric and tulsi tea. I was also drinking licorice tea but stopped because of the adverse information out there to licorice. Any suggestions? I would appreciate your input and any others from other folks on this same journey. Thank you! Toni
May I also recommend for those not aware, CLEAN YOUR SHOWER HEAD !!! Bacterial builds up in the shower head. I bought a hose that is lined in copper and a shower wand all copper. ( copper helps kill the bacteria). After every single shower I unscrew the wand from the hose and empty it and then unscrew the hose from the head of the spigot. I empty the water from the hose and hang it to dry. Sounds like a pain, but it really isn't. Hope this helps, too. Toni
Thanks Toni! Appreciate each and every idea. I have learned that you are so right-becoming your own medical advocate is necessary. This support site is a lifesaver!
@nannette I was using the "single" wedge for a while. But, I really was NOT very comfortable. I kept getting a pain in my hip if I slept on my side. When I saw on this forum there was one for the whole bed that you put under the mattress!!, I was so excited. I bought that, and we put it under my mattress. I was SOOOOO much more comfortable. But, my husband doesn't like it! LOL He complains he slides down to the bottom of the bed. I told him, "Too bad! I can finally sleep comfortable again after 4 years! Give it 4 years, maybe you'll get used to it!" LOL But I have now found, I am going back to sleeping on my stomach. I'm hoping the incline will reduce the silent aspiration if I still have that. I am very happy with the whole mattress incline.
@ginak, Yes! I feel like I'm cheating a little but since I have my wedge... I now still sleep a little on my stomach but I wait until later in the night when I'm sure all the food has gone down. Maybe I should try the whole bed wedge on my husband! And then say what you said to your husband, "Too bad!"
