MAC Dr. recommendations Mayo Rochester: What to ask at first appt?
I have my first appointment with Mayo on Aug. 5th. They have assigned me to Dr. Tatari, has anyone seen him before. IF so what do you think of him.

Hi @n4seth, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. As @auntnanny mentioned, Mayo Clinic specialists work as teams. No matter which MAC expert you are assigned to, you will have the benefit of a team approach and the collective knowledge of multiple specialists. @windwalker @jkiemen and @jammer can also share about this Mayo approach.
n4seth, How are you feeling? Are you currently taking any medication or therapy for MAC?
No meds, just diagnosed and have appointment with infectious disease dr in June.
Frequent cough and extremely fatigued. Was able to get a 5 mile walk in today. Anxious to have appointment and get started on treatment. Thanks for asking.
I don't know Dr Thomas, but yes, for several months response from my pulmonologist (Teng Moua) has been much, much slower. When I've inquired, his secretary apologizes and says he's on hospital duty and it's been sometimes a week hearing back from him whereas used to hear within 24 hours. He's always very apologetic and I know they do pulmonology and critical care duty in the hospital. I don't know if this is something more new for them or if they are overrun with cases. That's been my experience and I'm just sharing.
Thanks for letting me know this. It has been frustrating and now with this horrible pandemic, I can’t even imagine what they are dealing with. However, it helps to know that I’m not the only one who has been facing this delay over the past several months. Stay safe! Stay well!
@n4seth Hello. Welcome to our group! Have you had time to read through some of our older posts? Let me know if you need help navigating around this site. I am here to answer questions also.
@n4seth Is your appt in June at the Mayo?
Hi Terri, Thanks for asking. My June appointment is with my pulmonologist at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, WI and I now have a phone consult with an infectious disease specialist in Eau Claire on April 13th. One of my questions will be how many of these cases has he treated. I am wondering if I should be referred to Rochester but am desperate to talk to someone about this. So what exactly is your role as Volunteer Mentor?
I have started to look through some of the older posts, but have been struggling to get going. Am working on it!
Hi Colleen....do you know how much experience the infectious disease team in Eau Claire has? I have my first MAC consult via phone with one of the doctors in Eau Claire. It's a start!
