Hi John, my name is Alan and I'm 78 YOA. I've been a prostate cancer patient for 10 years, Still managing it quite well and not too many side effects, I've been on Lupron for 3 years now and it is keeping the PSA low and my testosterone is essentially at zero and of course that is one of the side effects but still leading quite a decent life. More info than you asked for but gives you a little bit of a profile.

Hi Alan,

What treatments did you take for 7 years before starting on Lupron? It is good to know that Lupron is working well for you and you’ve been on if for 3 years.
It is my understanding that Lupron will work for 5 years and then we have to go on something else. I would like to know is there anyone who has been on Lupron for more than 5 years?
Zytiga along with Lupron will extend this 5 period by another 18 months or so is what I have heard.

I had radiation treatment and 10 chemo treatments and some watchful waiting.over time. PSA vacillated but kept under 4. When a slow but a definite steady up trend was shown we then started on Lupron. First injection was January 2017. My injections are every three months. Next week due for another. I've heard that testosterone develops resistance to Lupron between 2-5 years. If that is true I hope I'm on the 5 year track. Have discussed some with my Dr. and Zytiga is discussed. I do have complete scans every year and all looks stable. My PSA has been staying below one for nearly three years now. Scans scheduled for June. Visit with my oncologist every three months.

I was 58. Aggressive cancer. 126.5 PSA. On Lupron. Had a prostatectomy, 7 weeks radiation a year later, then 5 more weeks radiation 2 years after that. Currently I’m on Zytiga in addition to the Lupron shots. Right now my PSA is undetectable.
