What are your experiences with Nucynta for neuropathy pain?

@ecc79 Hello. Pain Management prescribed me Nucynta when NSAIDS were no longer working. I took it for quite a while and it helped for the most part. Then one day, PM said I could no longer be prescribed the medicine. Turns out, the person who prescribed was no longer with the practice. My PM is anti drugs and pushes injections and implants. So, my PCP stepped in and prescribed me hydro.

Hi, thanks for this. You were happy with the pain relief from Nucynta but can no longer access this drug. Can you please elaborate on what the injections are for and what is hydro? I take it these are for pain management. Are the results comparable to Nucynta?

@rwinney, @ecc79, Nucynta....the only medication that worked for me. It saved me from Percocet after my anchovy surgery on my thumb, always remember how well it worked without any side effects, Glad you found it.

Yes, Nucynta worked and I was happy. When it wasn't working enough, I asked for a slight increase and I will never forget it...that slight increase knocked me on my ass. I crawled up the stairs to bed where I could not function and vomited. Lesson learned.

Hydro, aka hydrocodone, was an opioid that my PCP felt was comparable to Nucynta for pain relief. It's prescribed name is Norco. I take 5mg/325 which is a combo of hydro and acetaminophen.

Pain management centers offer alternative pain relief to drugs. They offer to implant pain stimulaters with leads that run through your body and cortisone (steroid) injections or radio frequency ablations. These are all of what I am familiar with.

At the point when I tried Nucynta, it was very effective with controlling pain—but it made me ultra aware off my numbness. I tolerated it very well. My insurance would not cover it well—$475/month after discounts.

I have used Nucynta and still do for break through pain. I am on a Butrans patch but at one point my insurance would only pay for the 15 dose and not 20. I have BCBS now and going to ask my dr to up it to 20. The 15 level does nothing for me, and the patch from TEVA does not stay on. I am switching to HealthMart who said they can get the USA -based patch from another supplier. I don't like to take Nucynta with the patch unless I absolutely have to because the combo can cause breathing issues suddenly. And I don't like taking 2 opioids. Nucynta takes several hrs to kick in for me, and then it tapers off after just a few hrs, so I don't consider it very good on its own.

I was introduced to Nucynta in 2015. The ONLY opioid that doesn't cause me to have any side effects. The only opioid that clearly doesn't have the side of effects when stopping. Now, in Arizona they are keeping me from having it. These doctors clearly do not know the full helpfulness of Nucynta with neurological patients. Since 2015 until the end of 2022 I was on it. Major joint replacements, four back surgeries, shoulder, knees and more. On top of it all I have fibromyalgia. The Nucynta relieves the terrible neuropathy throughout legs, feet, hands and spine. Recently, in December, 2022, a Banner University Hospital Anesthesiologist decided he was going to ignore my list of allergies to opioids, and gave me one of them. Waking up from the anesthetic and that Dilaudid on my allergy list, caused a hysterical aggressive response. Then the nursing staff tried to give it to me instead of the fentanyl injections ordered by my surgeon. Banner University Hospital does not acknowledge the use of Nucynta. Fentanyl isn't great for me either, but, this hospital won't carry the Nucynta. I'm now confined to a sofa or bed for most of the day again. Arizona Pain Clinics are all about injections. The injections are just another way to make a lot of money off the backs of people who are ill. They don't work for me. Nucynta 100 IR and Nucynta 100mg ER is what I was taking. Four-hundred milligrams a day. Helps for sleeping, too! I have not experienced any side effects. Not any opioid can take away total pain. Nucynta comes in many dosages. Everyone is different to what dosage could help you.
