Neuropathy: Anyone have any experience with gabapentin?

Posted by sjhedcon @sjhedcon, Mar 21, 2020

I have loss of feeling in my feet and tingling sensation. My doctor prescribed gabapentin. I read the side effects and decided not to take this med.
Anyone have any experience with gabapentin?

Hi Laura, Was wondering, what kind of hoops did you have to go through to get a video appointment at Mayo? Thx, Terry

Hey @terrydclaar! Guessing my referring neurologist marked my case as urgent. Other than that, nothing to my knowledge was done. I’ve been on the Mayo waiting list since mid February & was shocked in the best way to hear from them so quickly. I was told that Mayo was alarmed by my age, the unknown cause of this ailment along with my extensive medical treatments. Grateful doesn’t begin to express how thankful I am for even being noticed. I’ll keep you guys updated!

Fantastic, @laurask. I second @rwinney and @johnbishop's joy at your getting an appointment for a video-consult. You'll notice that I moved your message to this discussion where you've been sharing your journey with other members so they can also hear the news.

Are you making notes and a list of questions to prepare for the appointment?

If gabapentin doesn't help you, go on and try something else. It works splendidly for me and other people. If it didn't work for anyone the manufacturer would have stopped making it already. Peggy

@iceblue, Now, those are the words I have been looking for.......thank you. I have been using gabapentin at bedtime.....about an hour before. By that time my hands, wrists and arms are in such discomfort that I could not sleep. I can feel the needle like pain disappear within an hour and am ready for bed with the help of some cannabis balm in a 1: 3 CBD/THC ratio. Works for me.

Find some comfort today.

I have sensory neuropathy in my feet and lower legs. I started Gabapentin 11 months ago and have had an abundance of relief from it. I take 600 mg at bedtime and am able to get a good night’s sleep. The symptoms I feel it relieves includes the achy/pain in my legs at night as well as the creepy/crawly feeling under the skin of my calfs at night. Once I am up in the morning, any/all symptoms go away. I have good balance and gait, and get good relief from yoga that stretches.

For me, the best treatment for neuropathy is acupuncture. I have it in my neck C 3,4,5,5. I don't take meds at all. I have gabapentin 100 mg since 7/2019. I use once in a while for a sleeping pill

This topic, like the other topic about gabapentin, has the hallmarks of a "smear campaign". Peggy

I was taking 1800 mg. a day for my SFN diagnosis. But Gabipentin had bad side-effects for me. My skin developed painful rashes and discolored my skin. I cut the GP back to 1200 mg a day and have not that much of a skin problem. I don’t really know if GP helps with my symptoms or not of if it is the natural supplements I am taking. But my SFN is doing a lot better with fewer serious night attacks
