Age 65 and Good Health: Can I get my own groceries?
I am age 65 and in good health (no heart or lung issues whatsoever). I live by myself and I have no kids. If I need to make a quick run to the grocery store at a non-busy time, is that okay? I don't really have the money to pay someone to do my shopping. I spend a lot of time at home and don't feel isolated by this at all because it is really my usual situation. But I just wonder if I should not even do a grocery run. What do people think? How are others in my situation handling this? I am not talking about going out to bars or restaurants, talking about basic once a week market visits. Any thoughts?

@colleenyoung That is good that you can do that with your Mum. If mine was still alive I would have tried to do the same except she lived in a different country. I used to go over and look after her whenever she had surgery.
As far as the stores are concerned there is very little change here. We have some extremely early hours for seniors to shop, which we don't use and all other businesses are closed. We have the usual lock down and we sit and wait. My daughters in Canada have had much more done in their stores with the plexiglass etc.
@merpreb, moms are special. And heck, my husband is renovating and my daughter is 16 going on 17. I'm happy to get away from the construction noise and dust, and the teenage eye-rolling. LOL.
@pollyanne Putting up a barrier in grocery stores must be a Canadian thing. My mum lives in Canada, too. I hope the practice will be adopted in the US as well.
@colleenyoung There are some stores in So Cal that are doing the same I forget which ones they are but taken a note from the Canucks I guess
@lioness and @colleenyoung all of our local area small and large grocery stores have the large plastic barriers to protect the cashiers and customers. I also saw them at Costco.
@colleenyoung Yes, Canada is doing a good job I think but some areas on the mainland seem to be taking more safety measures in the stores. They just need to all do it.
Good for you! Laughing.
@colleenyoung- Dave, my husband does the shopping. Where we shop there are markers and boundaries everywhere, marked at 6'.
According to my husband, plexiglass sheilds are appearing, aisles are being labeled one-way , and 6 ft spacing is marked off at the checkout. Also we have a one person - one cart policy to further limit the number of people in the store.
Yesterday he agreed to trying the smart-shopper and pick-up next grocery trip.
