Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Mar 16, 2020

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

@lioness I am a quilter. Here is a landscape-type piece I did for a challenge. It depicts Figueroa Mountain [Santa Barbara County CA] in the moonlight, with the Santa Ynez River flowing by. The four phases of the moon. It is a combination of hand-applique and paper-piecing. It it called "Moonlight and Berries", done in 2005. I have been quilting since 1988!

@johnbishop - Ain't that the truth - we have been watching a variety of courting routines here in Sotuh Texas, and it seems like the girls call the shots! Our favorite were the male chachalacas strutting, preening and calling from the tops of trees and the females chasing them away. They seem to have made their choices now - they have all gone quiet. Every morning we watch the same young female grackle pulling on what we call wire grass here - long surface rhizomes - it usually takes her at least 5-6 tries to get one strand loose, she's been working on her nest for at least a week. We tried pulling some loose and putting on a vacant patio nearby, but she ignored it.

Night Blooming Cereus Cactus outside my house today. 2 years ago, we planted a cactus garden in pots over a leach field, this is the first bloom for this girl. I see at least one more bud...but this pleasure is only for early birds - the bloom is done by about 10am.
