Wellness program for Fibromyalgia patient?
I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and have been put on every kind of medication and nothing is working. I have found a wellness/fibro doctor near my house, they do a 3 mth program where they use a full blood work up, brain scan and my entire medical history. I would see there nutritionist and be put on a paleo/Mediterranean diet, be given supplements that he will decide after my blood work comes back, he will do adjusts to my neck depending on what the brain scan shows-he said the brain stem might need to be adjusted. I really want to do the program but it’s $3600 not including the supplements. Does anyone have any experience with a similar program? Is this something that can actually help a young person with fibromyalgia? And is this how much these programs cost or am I being scammed? Thank you!!

Hello! I’ve also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and what has helped me most is eating healthy drinking only water and doing stretches and walking at my own pace. Sometimes a relaxing on a swimming pool, going to counseling therapy. Also resting a lot and relaxing with prayer, meditation, music...Medication depends on your case and tolerance but I’m on Plaquenil and Prozac now. I wouldn’t spend so much money on a disease that can be controlled only depending on your response to different options. It’s pretty much trying out the doctor’s advice and discard what is not best for you. Make sure you can have a mind, body and spirit plan that can help you control pain, depression and fatigue which is pretty much the combo present on fibromyalgia. Hope you can find your healthy path!
@bfaicco9 - Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Sorry to hear that you have fibromyalgia. However it can be managed without that expensive program. I have fibromyalgia, my son and daughter too. They were diagnosed at a very young age- early puberty. Main symptoms were very poor sleep, body pain, weakness. My daughter had episodes of extreme pain in the early years. Both went to a fibromyalgia program at a children’s hospital’s rheumatology department. They went weekly to classes- learning about sleep hygiene- as setting rules for sleep- the most important factor in my opinion. They were also given a small dose of Elavil(amitryptiline) to help with sleep.
I have had episodes of pain related to stress, illness, fatigue. I developed a sleep disorder too- poor quality sleep, always exhausted. It was tough when I was working- now I’m retired and can take days to catch up on sleep and do nothing. All of us are doing much better now. The kids had to learn to choose how often they could stay out late. Fibromyalgia was not widely recognized then, so socially it was difficult- friends did not understand.
Did you see a rheumatologist?
Is it worth? Been “living “ with Fibro/ Chronic fatigue for 10+ years. Always trying to find some relief. Have try almost everything. Is this clinic worth the trip and time? I’m so tired.
Hi @deyac, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Are you referring to the Mayo Clinic fibromyalgia clinic? It is referred to as
- Pain Rehabilitation Center https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/pain-rehabilitation-center/sections/overview/ovc-20481691
If I were to spend that much money on my pain, I would go to one of the clinics -- Mayo, Carle, etc.
