To those that suffer from abnormal sensation, what helps to relieve the sensations? What have you tried? What has helped or worsened your symptoms?

Thanks John. I've read a bit about neuropathy. My recent emg was negative so it's difficult to treat my symptoms when they can't isolate a cause. I'm trying different avenues of treatment as well as possible causes.

My NCS and EMG was also negative but I've had two neuro surgeon and neurologist say I have Neuropathy. What good are the tests if the doctors disagree with results and cannot treat. It frustrating. I've been put on Gaba and if that doesn't work I'm supposed to take another medicine. My doctor put me on CBD which does nothing. Wish I had something good to report and help us all.

It seems that the only solution to neuropathy is pain control. Hopefully research will uncover something better in the (near) future.

Is the gabapentin meant to treat your pain? I actually started it for quite severe twitching in my legs at night, but I've found that it helps to relieve some of the spasticity in my feet and the strange sensations in my legs. I do not take it during the day. Just a dose at night. It however is not a cure all...

@beth11 Thanks for your empathy! It's rough going. I also go to PT for my feet. It does not help with pain at all, but has made my feet stronger. I had a constant urge to just get off my feet because they felt so weak, but that has lessoned. Continuing to walk is imperative, so building strength is good. This neuropathy is the pits. Lori R

I never realized how critical feet health is to general health until the symptoms in my feet started getting worse. My legs have really lost a lot of strength. The PT suggested that I see a foot surgeon to consider surgery to release the spasticity in my toes. It seems a scary proposition...

@beth11, Gabapentin is a seizure medication that is used to treat the pain symptoms of neuropathy. You are correct, it does nothing to help the condition of neuropathy.

@beth11 Yes, foot health is imperative. Amazing, how much I have found that out. As far as acupuncture, it did nothing for me at all. Nor did cold laser help me. Only things that help are marijuana, cbd oil, and Kratom. Not a good way to live, though. I am getting used to the feel of marijuana, and it does help a lot. Just not a way to live a normal life....

I agree with you Lori Renee...not normal. I can't use it during the day because I hate the way it makes me feel. Bedtime only. Tried and tried again, when I'm desperate for help but all in all, just not for me. Currently I'm trying to manage my body as best I can and sticking with hydro, heat and rest. Sucky way to live. I am trapped in my body and my mind wants to live as normal.

Beth, I was prescribed gabapentin for my SFN and it relieves the leg twitches and burning pain in my feet and hands and actually puts me to sleep within 2 hrs. of taking it. I only take it at night and have increased the dose 2x in 2 yrs. while maintaining a low dose. My pain during the day us minimal so I choose not to take it because I am leery of becoming intolerant. I also take R-Alpha Lipoic acid 2xday which I believe helps me with the pain besides other vitamins. Have you tried a muscle relaxant for the spasticity? Surgery is usually a last resort in my opinion.

I tried acupuncture on my hands with no success. I should add that I have had success in the past for other pain issues but I only went once for a 2 hr. appt. with a well respected acupuncturist but had no relief at all and so I felt the cost was not worth the effort to try again.
