Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@becsbuddy Another fantastic day here! 45 F, sunny, no wind. 1988 steps, 1.3 km, 77 calories burned! 🔥 Springtime! Ain't it wonderful?
@artist01 Thanks I'm only going for mail Dr,s office called to see how I was doing
@artist01
Atta girl Laurie!!!
I went to see the 🦆 duckies 🦆 and walked 1.3 miles (2.09 km)
I hope Hurricane Mary @imallears doesn't see them. She'll want to eat them.
Jake
@jakedduck1 Oh, Leonard, you got pics of the babies! How precious!
Ginger
Great pics, @jakedduck1! The mallard is a heart thumper for sure and the babies are adorable! Was truly surprised to find my Tractor Supply stop for bird seed was selling baby chicks and ducks!!! Fun to see but didn't like them being caged and hope they are Not intended for some uncaring child's Easter basket.
@artist01, So now we can call you Torpedo Laurie???? lol Congrats on your continued steps and walks in 40 degree weather that has some of us running for cover!
Have to heartily agree that Jake's, @jakedduck1, 5 mile swim is Olympic worthy!
I used to love to water ski and swim so I took a college life saving course. The course included "saving" others in the pool. The coach had five humongous football players jump in for the test and I nearly fainted at their size! Didn't drown myself nor them but steered clear of pools for awhile.
Hurray for your daylilies and daffys popping up, @becsbuddy! Despite the horrific ice storm experienced earlier, my first daffodil blooms retained their color despite being bent to the ground. Now later ones are blooming in both back and front yards; tulips and hyacinths are up but no bulbs showing yet.
Picking up my tax forms yesterday, the accountant told me of the predicted blizzard coming your way this weekend. Maybe in addition to the homemade cookies, you could entice @jakedduck1 with some hot chocolate or mug of buttered rum??? Hope you and others stay safe, warm and home if possible this weekend!
@jakedduck1
How adorable! You will be happy to know I don’t care for duck that much...not too many places know how to prepare it properly.
I do see some wild turkeys on my walks....hmmmmmm. But I would hate to break up the family and they sometimes come to visit in our subdivision. We do have a lot of snakes around.....and yes I have had grilled snake in the past. You can sit done now, I know you are getting queasy. Have to get out earlier now that the weather is getting warmer and then I can see more deer. No I am not having a Bambi Burger but yes I have had deer meat. Leaving now...2.5 miles is the usual and it’s 61 here this morning going up to 81.
FL Mary
@jakedduck1 Way to go, Jake! Walking 1.3 miles is awesome! Your duck photos are wonderful and make me feel so lonesome for the look of ponds and streams. We have the ocean, though, with Orca whale sightings! Happy trails. Laurie
@imallears Eeeeuw. Snake? You are some Wild Woman in the Culinary Adventure Department. My family virtually lived on venison (deer, for the uninitiated) one bleak winter, with turnips. I can't even look at venison anymore, but I love turnips to this day. I tried swordfish years ago in NYC. Not my favorite. Is it a protected species nowadays? I had Mallard l'orange in Paris on (one of) my honeymoon(s). Lol
