Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@lioness My cardiologist office called back. I had to manually upload the data from my loop recorder monitor and send it to them. They just called back and said they didn't see anything irregular. She actually went back to last February since I had it implanted and noticed nothing to worry about. My daughter said they would have been notified as soon as I have the afib. Her husband used to have afib, but no more, so she is kind of knowledgeable on that front. I think Amazon sells the Kardia. My cardiologist knows about it and approves it. I don't use it everyday. But like my American Express card, I never leave home without it.
@mayofeb2020 Thanks for the information I'm glad your o.k. I ordered the Kardia from Amazon won't hurt for me to check every once in awhile I think the effects after the inj will be expected and I'm not on any heart meds just cholesterol and B.P so I don't think I,LL have a problem but I'm glad you wrote back and let me know how you are and what your cardiologist said Thanks 🫂 I feel better
I had my 2nd Pfizer with some fatigue and some leg pain but a easy inside wait as the line was so short our weather (Ca.) Was windy and 58 this week. Trees came down. Branches everywhere on cars and houses so glad more are vaccinated even though we still have to be careful
I’m certainly not recommending anyone follow my example but there is no way I’m submitting to taking the vaccine or wearing two masks. My oncologist instructed me not to take any vaccines while on immunotherapy, With the lung cancer and COPD, I have enough trouble breathing wearing one mask, leave alone two. I’m of the opinion the mask is a waste of time anyway. The only people I know that have caught Covid have worn masks. Just my opinion.
@dutchw I know it is your opinion with regard mask effectiveness, however, Mayo Clinic did conduct research on this very topic and determined mask wearing is critical to preventing COVID-19 infection.

Thank you for the invitation Amanda, but i think it best if I drop the issue here.
Well, I got a walk-in today! Probably 22*but the sun was out. I even got too hot! Met up with a friend and her 2 dogs but I left Poppy at home. Actually walked 2 miles! Now to listen to my “spoon” count and just do nothing. How about you? Has the polar vortex changed your walking routine?
Hi Becky. Yes, the polar vortex has really interfered with my walking routine. We've had so much snow, and no snow plows have been out, except for the main roads. This city still thinks it's a town. Lol. I was planning to try a walk on the drier parts of the city sidewalk but decided against it. Too many wet patches, with possibly ice. Sure don't want to risk falling.
Good for you, walking 2 miles!!
I took advantage of the double digit of 10 and headed outdoors for my walk, however less than 2 miles - it was a relief! I also did my indoor floor exercises so I am ok although I am more encouraged that I can walk further outdoors as the temps improve this week.
Good for you, @jude07. Two miles - very impressive!
