Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

@lioness, Wonderful to have some away time with your friend! Understand the recovery time needed after your visit because it takes me 2-3 days to recover from a visit with my children. Glad too, that weather is turning cooler! Take care.
@fiesty76. Oh my goodness! When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? Your dance card is full for the week! ! I hope everything gets fixed right soon, and i mean you included. I'll join you in a virtual drink, albeit non alcoholic. Take care.

@fiesty76 When I first fractured my back in 2005 I would have to get up in the middle of night and take a hot shower ,lingering, till pain went away . Just the other night had to do the same thing but I didn't have a fracture just pain all over guess from my O.A. Going to Dr Oct 5 and going to give him all my symptoms hope he can help me .
@lioness, Yes, the hot water really soothes those aching areas. Hope your doc will provide good help for your symptoms at your next appt. Please share with us what you learn.
The walk on Saturday took me to the end of our street and back and was all I could manage. After more than a week on heating pads, trips to the acupuncturist, topical pain relievers, Tylenol and many hot Epsom salts baths, I made a large purchase of replacement pain relievers at Walgreens yesterday. Happy to report that the right side is much better today and found that wearing very supportive shoes throughout each day, even while parked on the sofa, floor and bed seemed to reduce the foot pain.
I act as though this walking is going to do me but I know that it’s really the best thing I can possibly do. It doesn't always make me feel better but sometimes it does.
My cousins birthday was yesterday and he wanted to go to San Francisco and go to various cities along the coast so that’s what we did. Yesterday I walked over 12,000 steps which is a marathon walk for me. More of the same today, I will will walk farther today which is a terrifying thought almost as bad as being in my kitchen but at least here there aren’t all goes horrifying gadgets out to get me. The reason I don’t mind walking today is because we will be going to some candy stores here in Santa Cruz, they have some amazing candy. A day without candy is like going to Santa Cruz not seeing the ocean. Guess I better get up and get started we need to go eat breakfast somewhere.
Keep on pounding the pavement kids and take one of the five food groups along with you on your walk, candies, cookies, pies, cakes, or pastry. It really does help.

I can't walk that many steps, but I do like your five food groups. I would do better with those in my diet, but do have to watch sugar intake. I envy your ability to eat out. I haven't had a meal outside my home since February. Luckily, my husband is a great cook and I do the dishes. I, too, do not like being in the kitchen to cook. I do not like trying new recipes. I know he is tired of cooking so once in a while he will bring home a pizza. We bake it here and it is delicious! Say, that could be another food group. That is really the only fast food we eat so why not live a little every now and then?
@joybringer1, I like your handle! Also agree with what you wrote except that I like trying new recipes but do not like the necessary clean-up. Think we all need to find and enjoy a few "guilty pleasures" during these uncertain times.
Laced on my walking shoes and hit the road today for a nice, but chilly walk. The trees are looking great, and the sumac hedges are blazing red. Next time I need to wear a hat!
Realized along the way that after 3 months of daily wear including 3 miles of walking and hours of playing with the boys, "the goodness has gone out of them" (My letter carrier Dad's term for shoes that looked okay, but weren't roadworthy anymore.) They are also woven elastic, so the breeze was blowing right through them - brr!
Then I tried on my previous walkers, and realized that they are still "like new" because I hate them - too heavy & too stiff. Then I searched for my "old standby" Reebok Classics on-line - only to learn they are now made of vinyl, not leather! So this afternoon, I shall have to venture into my local shoe store - I loathe shoe shopping, but will mask up & do it so I can keep walking.
