Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Today was a beautiful morning for a walk and I extended my time/distance, but not so much my speed since my foot was starting to say,"ouch". Day #1 of new week a success!
@wisco50 and @jakedduck1 We always called them creamsicles, but those are my kids favorite!
@wisco
@amandaburnett
frozen orange flavor wrapped around creamy vanilla ice cream, DELICIOUS!!!!!
Creamsickle is probably what they were called when I was a kid.

I think you are right, Dreamsicle or Creamsicle sounds right! They were delish. When I was in HS we used to put scoops of lemon sherbet in Coke - quite a tasty combo!
Jake @jakedduck1, have you just moved into my neighborhood???? Yesterday for the very first time all summer, the ice cream truck drove slowly by playing his "come running" tune. By the time I got into the money and back out to bargain for an ice cream treat, he'd moseyed on up the street. I'll trade ya' a couple of Snickers and Paydays for a Dilly Bar, deal???
Thanks for your thoughtful response, @migizii. Yes, keeping my daily gratitude journal and meditating more often helps me "level up" the slumpy times. Maybe I need to start reading the past 5 days worth of gratitudes when the grouchies start...would mean taking a short break from other things and might bring the focus back quicker. Keep telling myself, this too shall pass and we've made it this far so we can carry on successfully. Thanks again.
@wisco How bout a root beer float or ice cream in a cherry coke
Poor, Poor, Becky! I made some chocolate chippers for a friend today and will toss one your way, @becsbuddy. No one should have to go without a cookie. What are you doing penance for ????
@fiesty76 I caught it! Tastes good, too. Now, why are you making cookies? If I made some, I’d eat all of them and then my walking would be for nothing!
@becsbuddy
I thought you only ate one. I thought that only one bit was was big talk!!!
