Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@mayofeb2020 They want a note because I'm older then 65 I guess with covid they may think I have it I don't know but never had to get a note from my Dr for anything else .
@lilypaws I use the Amish cream It has different essential oils in it I have used before . I buy mine from Amazon .
@funcountess, Yes! And eons from now when they are uncovered as in a time capsule, humans will shake their heads in wonder because those polyester suits will still be holding their shapes!
@mayofeb2020, Alas, now you tell me about pantyhose use for prolonging onion life! Eventually used up my pantyhose stash but great idea!
@wisco50, If only I'd known, I could have called you to wish you "pleasant dreams". I go to bed early so as you went to bed, I was enjoying my first mug of coffee for the day! While early or late to bed, I hope all are staying well and safe!
@wisco50 yes, I am on Tramadol, but after my surgery Oxycodone helped with a tylenot. I was also on Tramadol. I am off of Oxycodone on my surgeons request, but still have lots of pain and can't get off of Tramadol. My knees and legs are hurting from walking which he wants me to do. Anyway, Dilaudid worked after I fractured my shoulder. But I guess I wasn't on Tramadol then, I was thinking of another drug that I take. Tramadol does not seem to help my pain that much. Thank you for your reply. I think I'm going to see my primary doctor to see if he can give me something else.
I know from both my own fusions (2011) and caring for postop fusion patients, one of the things that could/would help pain a fair amount is a big No-No - any type of NSAIDs. That is because the anti-inflammatory effect actually is detrimental. Sad, but true. They actually want the body to have an inflammatory effect as the reaction helps bone build around and into the fusion site. I was always glad when I could take aspirin again!
LOL! Funny! I have several sets of friends with very varied bedtime hours! I never call B&D before noon or one but can call them at 0300. I never call C after 8 at night (maybe it will be 9 now that she’s retiring but knew she was up by 0430!
@wisco50 Since my surgery I have to wait to take my anti-inflammatory till July 17th. I take Celebrex. I can't take any other over the counter or prescription. Celebrex is the only one that doesn't hurt my stomach. I'm still in quite of pain. It's been 6 week in my fusion and the surgery was 9 hours long. He had to go from T4, T5 and S1 where I had stenosis. I also had degeneration of the spine that caused a scoliosis. I have to be careful not to bend, twist or lift something more than 7 pound. I won't tell you the rest of it, but I had side effects and was in the hospital for 7 days, usually it is 4 days.
@lilypaws I'm so sorry you are in such terrible pain still but it will get better just be patient and as wisco50 said don't take any nsaids right now . Does a hot shower help or heating pad as these help me ? Take care my friend .
