Hi,
Your kitty missing for a week and a half. What stress to look for a lost pet.how did you find the kitty?
I’m a pet parent also, and am always mindful of when the door is open.they can and are usually faster then their human parents.
As for walking always better for our joints to walk on grass/soft surface.

@funcountess, Yes, our 4 legged friends can be really fast and out the door before we know it. I am so fortunate to have neighbors who helped me look for Precious. One neighbor helped me post a photo of her on our neighborhood site and local lost & found 'net sites. It was dreadful driving to the animal shelter each day to check the deceased list. They don't give that info over the phone. The not knowing was the hardest part because imagination can be treacherous.

It was a terribly stressful time because a couple of times before when she'd gotten out, she stayed in the front yard. Something must have chased or frightened her away. I had promised my neighbor the day before that I'd bring over cat food and litter for her cat. Heard a meow in the middle of the night; thought I was having a nightmare; turned on the light and there sat Precious in the middle of the bedroom floor "talking to me". At first I couldn't believe it. I do have a pet door in utility hall and garage door but both had been "permanently" closed since Precious adopted me. When she went missing, I opened both pet doors and that little girl found her way back inside.

Next morning we went to the vet for a check-up and possible dehydration. One toe nail had been torn off but otherwise no injuries. Incredibly, she is the only pet I've ever had that didn't race me to the door but after her return and even now, several months later, she does not even approach an outside door as I move toward one.

My best friends have an adorable Yorkie who would like to make friends with Precious but she is very shy and immediately hides whenever he comes over. Are you a dog, cat, or other pet parent? I agree that walking on grass/ground means a longer and more enjoyable walk than on pavement. I miss walks with my Sunshine dowg of 17 yrs and it was hard to start walking again this past January without her. Do you have a pet that can accompany you on your walks? Much earlier, I tried a harness and leash and liberally sprinkled them with catnip but Precious would have no part of that!

Yes I’m a pet parent to a 65 pound dog. My dog is so strong he drags me, so to difficult to have a nice walk, but I run and chase him in backyard. You are so fortunate to have your kitty back. In my area a coyote would get the cats, if not a coyote then the bob cats, or mountain lions. Jolly is big, but I still go outside when jolly is outside. I don’t trust the wild life in the area.
Right now I’m glued to the t.v. The area I grew up in is under siege from the current riots due to George Floyd murder in Minnesota. I was raised in Los Angeles, the looters and fires everywhere.
Governor Newsom approved the national guard to help with the situation. Now live near Santa Barbara,a long way from the unrest, but memories of old neighborhood are sad.
I’m very glad your pet scare had a happy ending. Us pet parents must be mindful of our pet kid, and what they can be up to.

@funcountess This is sad for the whole country. Unfortunately, much of the disturbance is caused by people coming in just using the murder as an excuse to cause mayhem, incite violence and unrest. I have read that there is even an organized group trying to cause a civil war. Right now I am very happy to not be living in a city.

Yesterday there was a protest in Manchester. It started in a downtown park, they marched through the streets and then ended in the park. There was no violence, the police even shut down some streets for them, and all went peacefully until about a half-hour later when some were still in the park. A pickup truck pulled up with a large political sign on it and two guys got out with rifles and started acting threatening. They were arrested. In this case, they were not from out of state, they were locals.

@contentandwell.. In the greater Los Angeles it was a very scary picture. A curfew is in effect but don't know for how long. There were looters everywhere, setting fire to police cars and businesses. Peaceful demonstration is one thing, but violence and looting is another. Small businesses are already suffering because of the pandamic, now many shop owners may have to close their businesses forever. How is that going to help revitalize the economy in the community?

@funcountess The whole thing is just so sad. What is happening to our country?

My son and my daughter both called last night. My son always calls one of us every night so that was no surprise, but I think my daughter just wanted to reach out because of all that's going on. He is in Denver, she is in Philadelphia, and both cities had 8:00 curfews last night. Since she is, according to her, not close but she can see the fires, (that sounds too close to me) I hope they will make the trek up here and stay with us for a while, distancing or not.

Are you an Angelino?
I grew up in the area where the looting, and riots were last night. In fact I ordered from a store at the Grove just last month. They had the items I needed to finish my garage, now it’s been torn apart. The custom pillows I have were made at a small shop on Fairfax Avenue it’s owned by an elderly lady and Her daughter I did a lot of needle point, and this small shop would put the backing on the needlepoint to make it a finished product.
Sad to say their business is now gone. The fire that was started by looters took down the building the little business was in.
It looked like Fairfax high school had damage also. The Target store on Pico were hard hit, with looters. That location was where the original Midway hardware store once stood, and just blocks from my late grandparents grocery store was.
Too many memories for me, and I went to bed after 3:00 a.m. with hives.
I’m told the national guard is patrolling Los Angeles. I remember the 1965 riots in the same general area, it went on for days.
I can only hope the store owners carry good insurance, it could take years to reopen if ever.
The two shoe store FLIGHT CLUB and TORI K were ripped apart not to mention the jewelry store lost all the merchandise.
Nordstrom department store I’m sure will be back open soon. Their loss was small, but the RAY BAN eyeglass store was destroyed.
In the future I’m sure there will be more riots, it’s something law enforcement and fire departments expect.

Hi,
You can see major fires for miles and miles. from where I live I could see Malibu burning in November 2018, not to mention I had fire burning to my north,east and west. It was just a half block from me, and took down home after home like the domino affect.
My windows were just put in, but even tho my entire home did not burn what did was stressful enough. I hope in 6 to 8 months to be back to my new Normal.
Two things are very important 1– take photos of everything, and 2— have good insurance

@contentandwell This is a really terrible time for out country . They tore up the Fairfax district . It has Jewish business there . Over in England they are protesting also . What next ?

@funcountess.. No, I'm not an Angelino. I live in Orange County. I saw all that on the news. My daughter lives in LA Cañada Flintridge, do you know that area? I remember the Rodney King riot when she was in college at USC, we had to go up and get her. It was very scary. The demonstration in London was a peaceful sit down. Target had closed many stores in the LA area. What is the world coming to?
