Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Where I lived a long time ago, we had our house carpeted with a beautiful carpet--the color was gorgeous. It was a shade of blue and green that I can't describe but I would love to have it in my house now. Everyone who came to that house commented on the beautiful carpet. It was very durable also. I had four kids at home. They are all gone with children of their own.

@fiesty76 Just did the rumba love it you do have to moves little objects in the way like scatter rugs that are thin I leave my heavier ones down and it goes right over it . You have to watch it just not let it go . So between my adjustable bed and me rumba my back thanks both. yes Jeanie you need to get one or other if you can before surgery . Mine is a Easy rest and it is. I put 200 down on it and making monthly payments of 150.00 Is this doable for you ?
@mayofeb2020 I did just rumba and you do have to pick up what you dont want sucked under it . I had some cords that I didn't get out of the way and it got caught in the underbelly lol I love it do you have a remote for your? I do but dont know how to use it yet have to reread the book. So between the rumba and bed 'Im a happy camper now so is my back . My hair needs a cut badly also I got so upset with it I cut it last night some just to make it shorter . They haven't opened here yet . That will feel so good a wash and haircut .
Hi, @rosemarya I think a good crowd is still walking. Well, maybe when they’re not watching rumba or planting veggies or eating chocolate! I’m probably not much better!
@becsbuddy LOL
@lilypaws, Hi, Jeanie, Thought of you today on my morning walk. Saw very few people so began thinking of Mayo Support buddies. Are you at a place where you are just getting impatient to have the surgery done and recovery begun? Wishing you the best and know you'll be in excellent medical hands. Take care and make others treat you like the queen you deserve to be!
Wow! You don't say if you're in Phoenix or Death Valley. A relative lives in Tucson and told me that this past Monday it was already 100 degrees. But it's a dry heat, right? Makes quite a difference. We are having a generally "soupy" day. Be careful out there.
Hi Sue,
That’s me for years I do yard walking. Back yard big enough. Do laps, I call it patrol walking, as I see what needs doing, and make a mental note. Also, walking on the grass is easier on knees, and back. Pounding the pavement is not good on joints.
Funcountess
@funcountess, I do yard walking too. After my kitty escaped and went missing for a nightmare of 11 days and nights, she is confined to indoors. What is so weird is that she no longer races to the door if I am about to go out. Oh, the story she could tell about her missing adventure! I do take her on bkyd walks firmly held to my chest and we "discuss" what needs doing in the garden. Smiles
