Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@contentandwell Are't they heavenly . Love mine It's been 3 days and my knee is getting better all the time. I'm going for a short walk today just to keep up a little so Becky does'nt scold me lol
Who me? I would never scold you @lioness ! You probably walk too fast! And I see that @jakedduck1 went out walking, too! I haven’t gotten anywhere near enough miles to make it to Denver so I guess I’ll just keep walking
@pollyanne and @lioness, I also bought an adjustable bed with massage when I replaced my mattress. Had a back injury years ago that acupuncture helped relieve pain and allowed me to continue working. My back continues to have painful flair-ups and I also have severe osteoporosis. I deliberated about the initial cost but it has been worth every penny. Not as regular with the massage as you, Lioness, but the ease of adjusting the head and feet is so easy that it can be a game changer for me when my back is "out".
Starting my Sat. walk at 7 am before the heat climbs to the 90's. Hope to see some others out and about; I miss seeing others. Are others changing the times of their walks because of climbing temps?
@fiesty76 I love mine also ..Next best thing for my back was buying a Rumba and watch Howard go to work . That's the name I gave him Boy do I need a haircut how bout everyone else?
@lioness, For years I used a very heavy Kirby vacuum. The thing simply would not wear out! vbg Eventually gave it to a much younger neighbor and bought an easily maneuverable Dyson. Emptying the debris was a breeze; however, even using this hurts my back. Maybe it is the way I stand or my posture as I vac? Maybe my ht of 5'7 1/2" has something to do with it? Maybe it is time for me to put a Rumba on my next purchase list?
Saw a cute video of a small creature...can't remember now if it was a kitty, puppy or human baby "riding" the rumba. Shoot, maybe it's time for Precious kitty to have a new diversion as well? Whadda' you think? Pet lovers will do anything to keep their critters happy and I could get the double benefits of watching her...and the rumba zipping over the floors. I really Like this idea! Smiles
Oh, Yes! Yes! Yes! My last haircut was 3/10 and stylist told me I was her 1st customer wearing a mask. Three days later I self-quarantined. Usually go every 3 /12 weeks because of short, fast growing hair. I am so overdue. Maybe Ripley's should have a page for "current, most outlandish Covid hair styles"? Off for today's walk.
fiesty76 I love my rumba. It is fun to watch it go over the floors. Yes it was a baby on the rumba then I saw a cat on it enjoying the ride his tail was switching. It has helped my back alot . Could never do floors after I fractured my L2 so had housekeeper but now wont have to . I finally couldnt stand the length of my hair so took the scissors to it . Waiting for a clipper to come in a friend is getting then will do a better job . Use to cut my sons when he was in college and my dog . We had a business that Howard did the sharpening Have a good walk . I did alittle yesterday and saw the beets I put in the outside planter they are growing so if I can find the seed will put more in.
Lioness I can't wait till I can walk with you girls. I'm so excited today, because my surgery is coming up fast. Be prepared, as soon as I heal I will be walking too. Jeanie
@sueinmn Since you are a mentor thought I would ask you. We haven't heard from @ 3 am for a long time. I have been thinking of her every time I sit down to the computer. Would it be ok to send a message to her? Jeanie
23am
@feisty76 Hey would someone buy me a bed like that adjustable bed with massage? That would help me get out of bed after my surgery. I haven't vauumed for years because of my back. I do have cleaners come in every 2 weeks. But doing the Covid -19 she hasn't been coming, but shes coming Monday. Yea, my tile floors and bathroom is so dirty. We do clean around our sinks though. AND I get my haircut June 2nd. I'm so excited. I'm going to a new shorter style since I'm going to be having the surgery. I wonder if I beat every one by getting my haircut first? Let Me Know! Oh, I forgot we got our carpets cleaned yesterday and they are looking gorgeous. We have a very low nap carpet. But the cost, WOW, but he did do the basement too.
@lioness. I gave away my very good LG vacuum because it gets too heavy. Now I have Dyson rechargeable. It's light weight and does the job. My son gave me his Roomba now that he has a small child and they have to pick up all the toys and stuff otherwise the Roomba would get stuck. It even went over the base of a lamp and got stuck there. If you have throw rug with fringes, it would be a problem. The good thing is to use it for vacuuming under the bed. My hairdresser emailed me, they are opened, mask required for customers and they'll test temperature too. We have to check in before going in as they have limited the number of people in the salon at one time. I need a haircut badly but will wait a little while longer.
