Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Posted by Becky, Volunteer Mentor @becsbuddy, Feb 19, 2020

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@lilypaws

@pollyanne I'm on a statin which I have no side effacks (sp) and it has helped my cholesterol. It called Rosuvaastatin calcium 10mg.

@lilypaws I had noticed the name of your statin. I will talk to my Dr when I see him next and ask for his opinion. I have had several temporary Docs recently because my regular one retired. I now have a regular Dr again. He is older and he said my cholesterol is good but I think he may be looking at it the old way. I will go over it again with him.

@lilypaws I just looked at the statin that my husband takes and it is the same one you are taking. I'm not sure if that is the one I tried or not. I will check it out. Thanks

@becsbuddy.. I walked today! Beautiful weather. Just unloaded my farm veggies box. Got kale, Maui onion, carrots, micro greens (pea shoots), radishes, beets, cucumbers, oranges, apples, strawberries and corn. I have so many cucumbers I don't know what to do. Not a great fan.

@lioness I do sympathise over the medications making your energy low. I have had the same problem, but I'm weaning myself off them as I felt they were wrong for me. So far I'm feeling much better without them. They made me dizzy, tired and I itched all over. I don't suppose you have a choice, but if you are new to this medication perhaps you will get used to it. However a day of rest is sometimes a good thing and you increase your energy the following day.

@lilypaws @pollyann.. Well, my doctor gave me a prescription for Rosuvastatin, he said that prevastatin is better for muscle pain. I had tried it and it didn't work for me. Hope this will work. I understand different people reacts to drugs differently. I'm only on 5 mg so I'm praying it'll work for me. He must think I'm a difficult patient.

@mayofeb2020 It's not because you are difficult. It's because you are sensitive. I can't take a lot of medications and my Mom was the same. I think a lot of the staten prescriptions do not agree with a lot of patients. That is what my Dr told me. Good luck with trying this one.

@pollyanne.. Thank you. I'm very sensitive to meds, so is my daughter. I have many leftover meds because I just couldn't tolerate them, I feel bad because it's such a waste. I was born and raised in Hong Kong and our director is a herbalist. Never even had any western medicine until I moved here. It's not that I don't trust doctors but sometimes I don't think they listen enough.

@lioness.. My PCP's wife is on this, so is my Neurologist. My PCP said Rosuvastatin gets better lipid results than others even at a lower dosage. My Neurologist is on 5 mg every other day. I hope this works for me too. Crossing my fingers and toes.
