Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

It’s true fields are being plowed over, the farmers cannot get enough help in the fields, and since restraunts are only take out,, the farmers have little source to deliver their merchandise, in the meantime the grocery stores have empty
Produce bins. Go figure??? In my area some farmers set up roadside fruits and veggie stands. Some weekly farmers markets are still open, but few customers, as most people are afraid to venture out.
SAD, SAD TIME IN THE WORLD TODAY.
I’m not diabetic, but the ulcer is in a place that is difficult to heal.
@darlingtondoll I am so sorry to hear about your ulcer. You need so much patience and we all are being tried in that regard already. I am beginning to have a trapped feeling.
@mayofeb You are so lucky having deliveries. We only have Instacart in Maui and they seem to be out of everything and they charge too much. We are relying on two younger couples to pick up some things for us. We don't have many neighbors because we are in a tourist area and everyone has gone home. ( Not that we would know them anyway) One couple who is helping us are American who live the other half of the year near family in Canada. They can't get home because the border is closed and they don't have Canadian citizenship. Poor things. It's a good thing that guests who had booked their condo here can't come at this time. We still have a few visitors arriving but they are supposed to spend 14 days in quarantine but I don't think they are following the rules. I see them walking in our area. I guess walking is ok but I don't know what they do for the rest of their time as pools and beaches are closed. I guess they can sit on their lanai and order take out food to pick up. I am starting to think we will be stuck like this until 2022 unless they can hasten the vaccine, but they have to make sure it is safe before they put it out for general use.
Well that wasn't exactly about walking but I intend to use the CBD ointment again. My knee/leg is still feeling much better. I shall walk a bit later as I need to gather my energy. The meds I am on for Discoid Lupus and various immune system problems sure slow me up in the morning. Have a nice day everyone and I hope your weather is good where you are. It's much nicer to be outside.
@fiesty76 I know it is legal in more and more states. It should be legal everywhere. I know it doesn't work for everyone but I couldn't believe how much it helped my leg yesterday and it still feels much better. It has been quite nasty and I couldn't put my weight on it. I guess it's worth trying. That's great that it helps your friend with cancer. They might mail to states that aren't legal in a plain wrapper but I don't know. You would have to ask them. The ointment we have comes direct from the grower.
@swift Thanks I will make an order out for the essential oils I dont have . When home I,ll put on relaxing music and my diffuser with the lavender mixture in it . Be safe wear a mask or dont you have to there . We do here in Calif. Best wishes to you and hugs
@darlingtondoll I remember when I first got out of training and started to work in the 60,s we didn't have gloves then so when I had to clean a ulcer no gloves ug but at that time in history we didn't think anything of it.
Yes, but I probably can’t find it again, although everything else appears fine. It was a post that had multiple people cited in it and referred to me going to the gym, etc......
Thanks for asking me about it btw😊
Thx for asking, but it wasn’t that one....I previously responded that it was a post that referred to multiple entries and also referred to me including something about going to the gym....don’t know if I could find it again, but everything else has been fine.
