Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Hi,
I’m in the Tampa Bay Area, specifically Pasco County about 4 miles north of the Pinellas Pasco border. Not that close but we share the same weather. BTW I have strong arms and legs but my upper body strength will never be like yours.
@lioness Let’s hope the bedbugs are wearing tiny masks.
The humidity was dripping off the trees today when I went for my walk at 7:15 this morning. Did 2.4 miles and a little sprinting but was so happy to get back into the AC. My post walking workout was the rest of my coffee and the tv news.

Ha! ..I prefer “slender” and I think it would take a hurricane to lift me off my feet (or a good looking man).

@pollyanne That is a lot of new cases. The local online newsletter publishes a map with all of the cities and towns in NH, and indicates the range of the number of cases in each by color. I was startled to see that our town, which has about 20,000 people now I think, is in the 20 - 49 range. We just got upped to that range so I presume we are at the lower end of it, but still, it is alarming. I always feel so safe here in our little enclave but now I have even more reason to avoid the grocery store.
Regarding cost of living on Maui, I recall clearly that a bread that we love was around $7 a loaf there. Back here is's no more than 3.99 a loaf. Also, gallons of water were all at least $3. Oddly though, the restaurants were not much different in price than the restaurants back here.

Jane, so glad to hear that you can easily transfer from your chair and also lift your entire body with your arms. Think you and my nephew would have become good friends. You both share that inspiring: Can Do Spirit that makes others want to be with you.
My daughter lives in Clearwater and my granddaughter lives in Tampa
@darlingtondoll I,ll bet your core is really tight that's good can your husband massage your legs for you or maybe some P.T. on your legs? The ladies in my exercise groan and moan when we do the core exercise . Im going to tell them about you . Hope you had a good sleep last night
@darlingtondoll
Clearwater is where I use to live and work and we do everything in either St Pete or Tampa cuz there’s nothing much in Pasco.

Hi, all! How are you doing with your walking/exercise? I have to admit, I didn’t get out yesterday—it snowed all day. News said that we got over 12”! Sun is out and Sky is blue so today I have no excuse! Walk, walk, walk!
