Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Posted by Becky, Volunteer Mentor @becsbuddy, Feb 19, 2020

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Becky, True confession here! Admittedly slow as a sluggish turtle about some things: vbg...are we keeping our "walking" thread and moving any comments about food to the one you posted??? Does this mean I can't go for dinner Mex. food and a toddy at Jane's? Hugs

@fiesty76 of course we’ll keep our walking thread!! I need the daily inspiration and kick in the backside. And , heavens, go for the Mexican food and toddy at Janes! Just walk there!

Too messy. You’ll have to make a trip to my house.

Ohhhhh, Man!!! You are a certifiable little Stinker!! Could eat the whole tamale in one gulp!!! Looks suspiciously like a Texas Sheet Cake that is one of my proverbial favorites...not only because it is so yummie but also because it always turns out Grrrreat...an added benefit...vbg

@darlingtondoll Send me a piece of that luscious looking cake .

Under normal circumstances that definitely wouldn’t be out of the question. However travel might be a bit risky now. I just might take you up on that offer when this mess is over with.

I unnerstand. One of my current diversions is watching the dust grow on inside surfaces...whatever floats our boats, right?

Hey, everyone. How are you doing with walking/exercise? With this ‘stay in place’ order, at least we can get out and enjoy early spring! Do you feel better? More limber? Ready to do a marathon? Some of you may have a few extra calories because of all the virtual food they’re eating! Let’s focus on exercise, not food! It is so pretty out today; maybe 60 degrees, blue skies, tiny bit of green on trees. Too soon for flowers. Here’s the link to our walking program in case there’s anyone new:

To think that we’re starting week #6! Wow!
