@inspired123 Welcome to Mayo Connect. We are a very diverse group of people, patients, caregivers, and family members alike. Having different sources of pain can be confusing, and there are many different coping ideas. Has your doctor referred you to an endocrinologist for help with the diabetes and its accompanying neuropathy? You might also ask about a referral to a pain management specialist, who can look at the overall picture that is you, and assist you in setting up a program that works for you. I keep a journal of my pain issues and symptoms, along with the health things going on with me. It helps pinpoint the activities/times of day/severity of discomfort. You also might find it helps you in communicating with your doctors. Are you willing to try this?
You are also concerned about taking your pain out on others. This is a good question, and you seem to understand you are doing this, which is a great first step! Take a deep breath, put yourself in the shoes of others, and ask if they deserve to be the target of your pain. Gently reminding yourself that it's not that other person's fault, you might find you tone down your interactions.
We wish nothing but the best for you, and hope you will return and let us know how you are doing, and what worked for you.

@inspired123, I see that you are having some great feedback from @gingerw. You have asked how to cope with pain and how not to let your struggles be a source of displeasure to others. For 4 years now I have managed my Small Fiber Neuropathy pain with medical marijuana. It offends no one, lifts your spirits and even calms your anxiety. Let me know if you want additional information. May you be free of suffering. Chris
Chris This is Inspiration 123, would love to try Medical Marijuana I don't think my doctor would not give it to me. Any Suggestions. I appreciate the Help
@artscaping Hi Chris, I’m wondering what strain of medical marijuana helps with your pain. I’ve tried it before but it just made me sleepy. It didn’t help with my pain. I tried several different combinations of CBD to THC. I watched a television show, Pot vs. Pills on CNN with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and it showed how the smokable form of medical marijuana dramatically helped two football players. It helped them to stop taking opioids. I’m not too keen on smoking it, but if it helps so well with pain I might give it a try. It’s a difficult choice. I have nerve pain from Parsonage Turner syndrome.
@patrick17, Hi there Patrick. Yes, I think we have met. I understand some of the Parsonage-Turner syndrome side effects include pain and some do not. I also see you can be relieved of this affliction within time because of our body's own healing devices.
So....you are having pain in your shoulder upon movement or just nerve related? My basic plain vanilla products are medical quality CBD (not from Hemp) and THC high grade. I used to use the Indica strain when that was how you purchased products. I ended up with a Sativa, Indica hybrid for most.
The product I purchase now is not strain specific.....it is a dosage combination of 1:1 CBD/THC. Sometimes to ensure a better sleep I will use a 2:1 CBD/THC at bedtime. I am always learning. I used to make sure I had eaten before using the product. Now, first thing in the morning, I use a dropper of tincture held under the tongue and released through that porous membrane and sent on its way to the brain. In so doing, the product is not sent through the digestive system and can begin to have effect within minutes.
Since your issue is nerve and not muscle-related you probably don't use topicals. Just in case, I use a 3:1 topical balm that lasts about 3 hours.
Any more questions? I will try to find a possible answer.
Be free of suffering. Chris
@inspired123, I think I am playing catch up here. I am referring to your request for information about managing pain. You have a number of places in your body that cause discomfort. Please read the response I sent to @patrick17 a few minutes ago. I was responding to his request for nerve pain. It lays out a pretty basic recommendation.
You have asked for advice regarding Medical Marijuana. And you say that you don't think your PCP would not help you. Then you should start there because s/he will know what other meds you are taking and have some idea of the type of pain you are experiencing from several different sources. Start with a product, e.g. tincture and a dosage ratio, e.g. 3:1 CBD/THC. Keep a journal of all of your treatment efforts and the results. Check-in with the pharmaceutical technician if they have one at the dispensary for analysis and recommendations for continuing. I am happy to review results with you as long as you know that I have no medical education and cannot diagnose or prescribe.
All of this assumes that you have legal access to medical marijuana. In what state do you live? What have you tried in the past? I would stay away from edibles and gummies. For those of us with pain issues, tinctures and topicals provide about everything we need.
Be free of suffering. Chris
