Anyone know of long distance transportation assistance?

Hi,

Medicaid may be able to get you a ride even though it’s not an emergency but you would have to contact your state Medicaid agency to see if you are eligible. And that will probably involve frustrating phone calls....as it is with most government agencies. So you have to be persistent and not accept a denial right off the bat. They may suggest alternatives also. Do you by any chance have a Medicaid counselor who could help?
Uber and Lyft are coordinating with Medicaid in some states so maybe you could contact them. Two hours away is a hike so I can understand why getting personal help might be a problem.

Hi @januaryjane - Have you tried contacting your local state or county government to see if there are any volunteer driver services available in your area?

@januaryjane Welcome to connect the only suggestions I can give to you is to call Access and they can take and return you to your home . If you don't have any transportation through your insurance also Dial a lift if you have this can help also . Dial a lift has a ramp for walker or wheelchair . Good luck. Both of these take you 2 hr. or more in Calif Access will go across counties

@januaryjane Check with your county's Area Agency on Aging. They may have resources for you. Check with friends or family members if they know of someone. Check with the medical facility and see if they have resources they can refer you to; you might be surprised. Will you come back and let us know, please, what you find out?

I don't know where you're going or if there's a rail going there, but every Oct. I used to take the train from Washington D.C. to St. Louis to visit my son when he had his Fall break during October. I got a family unit which has a sink, shower, toilet, bed, and chair and table. But to get those you have to call REAL early. I loved the train. Good Luck

I was 3 1/2 hours from Mayo and for 4 months had to go once a week for treatments. People from my church took turns driving me to my appointments.

I love traveling on the train in a Compartment. We took the Coast Starlight from Sacramento to LA nearly 400 miles and it was a bit pricey.
I occasionally see people requesting rides usually to San Francisco (92 miles) on the Nextdoor app which is world wide and there are numerous people willing to take them.

@januaryjane you might check angel flights, they provide free or reduced flights for patients when available. That is all I know about them. I would do an internet search for assisted traveling for medical patients for your area.

Ha, i know those frustrating calls. Im not connected with a medicaid agent but im going to call them and try to get any info. I ended up rescheduling. But my resources are limited, i live in the middle of nowhere. Im hhoping medicaid has something.
