Anyone have polyps removed.? How was it done and was your nose packed with gauze.

@veganmom Yes, I had some removed about 15 years ago. I had been experiencing 3 - 4 cases of sinus infections every year and turned out it was the polyps. Yes they packed with gauze afterwards. I had some bleeding but not much. It was mostly uncomfortable. But it has significantly helped me during the allergy and winter months. I don't get any infections anymore. Good luck

Thank you so much for the quick response ...I am hoping it will solve my issues and if it is uncomfortable I guess there not much I can do about that. Much appreciated

I had them removed 7 years ago along with expanding the opening to the sinuse and had cartelidge removed.
Breathing and swallowing was difficult with the packing but in the lomg run it was worth it. My chronic congestion got better.

Thank you for your honesty ....my fear of not being able to breath is what is stopping me from going ahead with the removal

@veganmom - I've not had sinus surgery - just a septoplasty to fix a deviated septum. I did not care for nose packing either - it felt challenging to breathe and settle down at night to sleep with all the stuff in my nose. I think my fears about being able to breathe with the packing were ultimately not rational, but it was not my most fun week till the packing was out, I'd say. Like what @jeanette527 and @mikepa said about their sinus polyp surgeries, I was ultimately pleased with my outcome, despite the discomfort, as I could breathe better on a day-to-day basis.

Do you have a surgery scheduled, @veganmom?

I think I only had the packing in for a couple of days. It was uncomfortable but worth it.
I could breath through my mouth just fine. It did make swallowing hard though.

How do we determine what the root cause of what polyps is? I had endoscopic surgery in March 2018 to.remove polyps and it made things worse for me. For the past 18 months I am unable to exercise, my asthma that I had as a child more than 30 years ago has suddenly come back. The coughing is crazy, the routine is get sick go to the doctor get prescribed for antibiotics and prednisone, relief for a while and the cycle continues. I have done an allergy test and have found that I am allergic to dust mites. How do.I prevent polyps from coming back. Not too mention that I have picked up a lot of weight due to my lifestyle change. If I am in an air conditioned room my symptoms get worse. What do I do? Would taking antihistamines continuously prevent polyps or sinus infections? I'm seeing an ENT specialist in a weeks time. Would surgery again be an option? A CT scan 2 weeks ago showed blockage of polyps in my sinuses totally. The first surgery in 2018 included removal of polyps and reduction of turbinates. This is what the current ENT has told me. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have had ENT issue's since I was a child.
I was operated on a three years old, what the exact procedure was, not sure.
Procedure was done in Azores, remote Island in the Atlantic.
Growing up always caught a cold or two in the winter months. I'm sure it had something to do with sinus issues.
Forward fifty plus years, decided I was going to do something about it.
Diagnoses : Polyps found and mild deviated septum
Doctor did not recommend surgery for either.
Polyps treatment: Recommendation, nasal rinse morning/night, nasal spray and antibiotic's for ninety days (90).
Doctor is telling me this may cure or get rid of my polyps.
Anyone had similar situation and treatment, and what was the outcome.

Thank you, O Tavares
