Meet others living with autism: Come say hi
Welcome to the Autism group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
Living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may have many aspects in common with neurotypicals, but also some uniquenesses. Whether you are someone diagnosed with ASD, or are living with or caring for someone with ASD, let’s connect.
I’m Lisa, and I am the moderator of this group. I look forward to hearing about the lens through which you look at life, your experiences, and what comes easily to you and what presents difficulties. Perhaps you or your loved one has been misunderstood or even mistreated by others, or maybe you have heightened senses that bring you much joy. Whatever your story, I encourage you to share it openly and frankly, and also provide compassion and a place of safety for others touched by autism.
I’d love to welcome you and introduce you to other members. Feel free to browse the topics or start a new one.
Have a seat in a comfy chair, grab a cup of coffee or a beverage you like, and let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself?

@auntieoakley , I get really discouraged when I hear these kinds of things. I know it is true. And some of the people who are in a position to help do not have one ounce of compassion in their whole body.
Witness my daughter's recent visit to get her monrhly shot from the CRNP. This is at a mental health clinic. My daughter was asking about possible changes in her medication, as she was very anxious and depressed. The CRNP very brusquely snapped at her saying " This appointment is for your shot only. We dont have time to talk about your medicines."
I was appalled. No compassion at all. And, if I'm not mistaken, she did not even follow appropriate protocol.
Now, I know that my daughter is a difficult case to treat. Her case is challenging. But that CRNP was totally out of line in the way she treated my daughter. She behaved as if she could not wait to get rid of my daughter.
Another battle to deal with.
This story is not over.
Prayers and hugs to you and all who care about those less fortunate,
Mamacita Jane

@sirgalahad Sending you healing thoughts and hoping you feel better soon. How can we help?
Ginger
@auntieoakley We're all here for you. Being on the spectrum, it must be difficult to remember to take care of yourself as your sense of duty and caring for others take over thoughts, isn't it? And we feel so deeply. Gentle thoughts headed your way...
Ginger
That sort of injury would shock any of us, @sirgalahad. Wishing you God's speed as you heal from this fall.
@sirgalahad , I feel so badly for you, brother! It could have happened to anyone. We get busy and are on a mission and BAM! We face plant on the floor.
I havent fallen LATELY but this 68 year old is having issues of just walking these days.
I'm afraid my old friend Plantars Fasciitis and Neuropathy are engaged in battle with each other. My feet are very painful and sharp pains attack my feet so badly that I cry out. I don't mean to but it just strikes at any random moment .
This Mama ain't got time for that! If it doesnt get better I will make an appointment with my wonderful Dr. Matthews. His practice is here in North Alabama. So anyone of you reading this, if you need a Primary Care Physician, I highly recommend him. He is so good he should be with Mayo Clinic!
Darlin' I hope you will continue to keep us posted on your injuries we so can pray for you and send positive healing thoughts your way. Jot us a note or give us a holler, alright?
Lubs and healing hugs,
Mamacita Jane
