Hello @suerc. You may noticed I altered the title of this discussion a bit to be more specific on the topic of mattress recommendations for members who are suffering from back and pain issues. I'd like to invite a few members who are also dealing with back issues and may have some thoughts on better mattresses or are curious about the same topic. @1prettymess, @sherry44, @dementmt, @dmac5, @mlross4508, and @bernese53 have all discussed a broken back, neck surgery or RSD/CRPS on Connect before and may have some input on a good mattress.

I'd also invite you to check out the following discussion on Scoliosis and Sleep Number beds, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/scoliosis-and-sleep-number-beds/. While it is for a different diagnosis, members like @gailfaith, @sandytoes14, @jager5210 discuss beds and back pain and may also have some insight on what happened with their search.

I had back issues for 10+ years, including morning back pain, and never considered a mattress change. Then we packed up everything before our move from VA to GA and we had no bed to sleep on the last night. We considered a hotel but a friend suggested we borrow her camping air mattress. I used it and awakened the next morning to ZERO back pain. I quickly ordered the one you always see on TV and specified delivery at my new address. Morning back pain disappeared except for subsequent golf injuries. 15 years later and I'm still using the same bed.

This is a Great topic!!!! I suffer from severe back pain. I struggle to find a mattress. May I suggest getting a mattress topper ? I tried testing sleep number mattresses in the store. I also tried other mattresses in another store a different day. the day that I tested sleep number mattresses the rest of the day and the next day my back was worse, I have to say unless you like firm mattresses and are not sensitive I would personally not suggest a sleep number mattress unless you plan on putting one or two toppers on top. I have done a lot of research and reading on this topic and they do say that a hybrid mattress is the best type of mattress for people with severe pain and there are several things to look for :how much somebody weighs, if you’re sleeping alone or with somebody, what type of sleeper are you; side sleeper, a back sleeper or a combination sleeper? Do you have back pain? This will determine what size mattress you will be looking at , and also what type of mattress you’ll be looking at? Also, do you sleep hot at night? A memory foam bed is going to sleep, warm or hot even if it has cooling gel in it the cooling gel will help, but it will still be warmer than other beds that are not mainly memory foam. look at what percentage of memory foam is in there to determine if it may overheat at night Also, is there a break in period? The shortest braking period for a mattress is made out of latex materials. Do you have allergies to latex or any of the other materials in a mattress? there’s a lot to consider when purchasing a mattress. You also want to look at what type of warranty they have. is it better to buy a mattress without trying it out in the store and buying it direct? I would love opinions from anybody on the best mattress brands. Sealy Posturepedic has been around for years and are in thousands of hotels around the world. Ideas? Thoughts? Have a beautiful day. Together we can help each other
