Hi Razorclams...schizophrenia is a heartbreaking illness to deal with..I’m in Toronto, but I can tell you I have lived with schizophrenia my whole life..I have 2 siblings that have it..what I have learned is to have a psychiatrist to oversee your treatment plan..I have had to admit my siblings to the hospital for a 3 day assessment, if they r exhibiting suicidal tendencies..to get them back on medication, and regular councelling..I would also join a schizophrenic support group to get emotional support..my sister is higher functioning then my brother, but they both lack insight to their behaviour..call the schizophrenia society in your city..if they r like Toronto they have psychiatrists, therapists that will help..local hospital for crisis, and councelling..my siblings would go off their meds as well, which is a huge problem..you needed a skilled SW who specializes in this, and Family Dr. As well as your support team and help for yourself ie. councelling..this is tough stuff..hoping you get the help you need💖🙏
@razorclams, I know that guilt feeling first hand. I try to turn guilt into action, but it is challenging when so much is beyond your control. Like Teresa said, she is with professionals who are trained to care for people in this situation. Your love and care for her helped her to seek help. Even if she is refusing medication, she is getting help. She is not alone.
You are not alone either. I don't know the right things to say or tools to help you, but I'm here to listen. Call or text 988, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline https://988lifeline.org. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, in the United States. They are trained to help.
