Alcohol helps with my pain: Does it make neuropathy worse?

Have lumbar spinal stenosis! Bad neuropathy and weak legs! Alcohol only thing that helps with pain etc! Does it make neuropathy worse?

@wilcy, I have no medical background or training but from what I've read alcohol can make neuropathy worse. It does damage nerves and can cause neuropathy so I no longer drink any alcohol because I don't want my small fiber PN to get any worse.

I have the same problem, only I am also a Type 1 diabetic, so I'm not certain whether the leg neuropathy is due to my back problem or the diabetes! Anyway, I agree the alcohol does help relieve the pain.

Hi @joanmargaret44, welcome to Connect. Thank you for sharing what helps relieve your pain. Mayo Clinic has some information on diabetic neuropathy here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diabetic-neuropathy/symptoms-causes/syc-20371580.

Are you able to share a little more about your back problem? Did you have an injury? There is another discussion here on Connect you might find helpful here:
