Mayo Clinic Minute: New technology for cochlear implants
Many people with hearing loss may benefit from cochlear implants. The technology, which has been available for decades, has helped children and adults hear better, and sometimes for the first time. Dr. Colin Driscoll, a Mayo Clinic head and neck surgeon, says new technology used during the implantation procedure is making the devices even better.

1 ReactionColeen, Regarding the video and article from @hlaasdan, I'm thinking 3 years out and new technology and techniques such as in the article, do you know if the cochlear implant surgery can be redone when the recipient receives an upgraded processor?
I do not know, @alice44. I'm hoping someone else with first-hand experience with Cochlear implants will jump in with info. Have you talked your specialist about it?
Collen, thank you for your reply. I asked an impossible question. Sorry. That was my impatient voice. Who really knows what may be CI procedure in 3 years? CI recipients who wish upgrades should ask their CI audiologist(s) and anyone who may have information on new procedures. Thank you again.

You can upgrade just with the external processor. Are you asking if you could also upgrade the interior part of the CI?
