Hi @me1229 -- There is already a discussion with the same name. I'm tagging our moderator @lisalucier to see if we should combine your post with the following discussion where other members with small fiber neuropathy can share their experiences with you.

It's just my opinion but I no longer drink alcohol because I know it damages nerves from the research I've done and can also cause neuropathy if you drink too much. It may not hurt to have a glass or wine at night but I look at from the perspective of it may not hurt but it certainly won't help the nerve damage that causes the pain. Hoping other members will chime in and share their experience with you.

...but but but...we love our evening cocktails!! Geeze, yet another loss from this disease. I've had to give up so much, its hard to add another to the list. But you're probably right. Arghhhhh

I just learned that I have small fiber neuropathy. They have not been able to find what has triggered it, but my sister has Charcot Marie tooth disease so I am sure it is hereditary. I am waiting on a consult with Dr. Klein @Mayo Clinic.
I tell you all this because I have a large family history of cirrhosis of the liver and people dying within 10 years of drinking. How I kinda understand it is you’re already dealing with a small fiber neuropathy, and then to drink on top of it. It is just going to speed up the alcohol symptoms meaning cirrhosis of the liver and damage you more. Alcohol is NOT the answer. I have seen it firsthand, and I always grew up thinking that there was something more to it as just alcoholism. my mother died when I was 16 of alcoholism. She was 40 years old. I am now 44. I’m not an alcoholic. Her brother died in has late 20s my grandmother died in her early 50s and she did not get cirrhosis of the liver until she got sick and started drinking. I can go on and on about other family members that have died in the early 20s too and other family members that are fighting to survive and not knowing what’s going on with them.
