keeping the site clean before surgery is very important, and the nurses and doctors will be cleaning it as well. Drink lots before you go in, but try to avoid the gatorade - it has a lot of sugar in it. the apple juice will be better. to get the metallic taste out of your mouth try chewing slowly on the skin of a tangerine - a little bit goes a long way. But it must be a tangerine - not other oranges or citrus. it works! where are you having the surgery, and is it the whipple? if so, are they doing this laproscopically or robotically? it does take a bit longer for the surgeons, but your healing time is faster. try to wean yourself off the pain pills as soon as you are comfortable with doing this, and stick with ibuprofen and tylenol. Stronger meds only constipate after a couple of days. you can private message me, if you would like to correspond on a more personal level. it's a long road, but hey the mayo gave me a 1 in 3 chance of survival two years ago and i am at work right now typing this to you. There is hope and you can do this!!!!! Stay positive
Thanks for the info about tangerines i will keep that in mind when the time comes for the chemo. I am having a distal pancrecectomy and removal of my spleen. He is going to try to do it all laparoscopy I had my gall bladder out that way and i healed very quickly. I bought apple juice to drink. I know Gatorade does have a lot of sugar and I am not a big fan of it anyways. I just finished up my walk since the rain stopped. i did almost 5,000 steps today. This whole ordeal started with a random pain in my flank. After a month I went to my primary care doctor.. She suspected a UTI but I was pretty sure it wasn't. i have had them in the past and I didn't have any pain when I peed. She did a UA and it came back normal. Also did a full test on the urine and drew blood. Everything was within normal limits. So she thought maybe a kidney stone which is what I really thought it was. She sent me for a CT and it showed a lesion on my pancreas. I then had an MRI and saw a GI specialist. He wanted to do ultrasound and a biopsy. The biopsy was not conclusive and the lesion was or is small . So he sent me for a PET scan and that confirmed it. I have been on pain meds but I am only taking it when I really need it. I can do Tylenol too if I want but was told to not take any ibuprofen.
If you can get medical marijuana i highly recommend it! All my doctors at mayo rochester and here in south florida advised for it as well. Best of luck and let me know how it goes!
I will try and it is actually legal here in Oregon. I'll ask my doctor when i start chemo. I have tried the CBD stuff but I didn't like it. If I do it it will be the old fashioned way 🙂
the thc in it is essential. this is what helps with inflammation.
Hi Diana, what other natural treatments did you try? Are you juicing your own veggies? Thanks.
@debsid. I do juice - carrot (5) celery (2) Granny Smith apple (1) beet (1), ginger and tumeric. I do take milk thistle seed every night (3 capsules) as it helps the liver, which you will need to keep it strong. I also did essiac tea.
